Games you like to play when drinking (not drinking games!)

We have all of the CAH expansions, and it's been pretty fun on drinking nights. We've also had a great time with Scattergories and Taboo (same copies that I've had since I was a teenager!) I've also got a whole list of games on Amazon that I want to get for future game nights.

    Does Co2 expire?

2nd'd. I did this and actually got a nice aluminum tank in place of my ugly, handle-less steel one.

    Dry hop advice requested

I just dry hopped a pale with Citra for the first time, and I find myself liking it so much that I wish I added more! I only used 1oz since it was my first shot, but next time it will definitely be (at least) 2.

5 Tips For the Apartment Brewer

I have all the space that I could ever want, and I still use a small Harbor Freight fountain pump and a cooler filled with ice/water. Texas tap water is too warm to sufficiently chill near-boiling wort without considerable waste.

    NON-ALCOHOLIC vacuum distillation of additives/sweeteners

I've got a mini-fridge that has a leak somewhere in the lines, and I've been considering making a vacuum pump out of the compressor. This would be an interesting application.

Help - our gravity reading makes no sense!

I'm sure I'll get jeered, but I built this incredibly inexpensive thing to yoink samples from my glass carboys: I punched two holes in a washed-out pasta sauce jar lid, popped in a couple lengths of 3/8" hose that were going to get tossed anyway (discoloration/age). I pop the end of my...

Help - our gravity reading makes no sense!

Your beer is going to have at least some carbonation in it, since CO2 is a product of fermentation. If there is enough in your sample, it can come out of solution when you put your hydrometer in and cause it to float higher than it should. To degas mine, I just put my hand over the top of...

    Vanilla extract - store-bought vs home-made - a concensus?

Hang on a second, here... you are looking for a consensus on the HBT forums? Good luck with that! ;)

    Slow keezer build

I sold my way-too-big Fridigaire chest freezer to a friend and used some gift cards I had to pay for most of the 8.7ft³ one. I wanted something that was still reasonably small, but would allow for at least 3 cornies and a 6 gallon carboy, so that I can do some proper lagering. Not sure exactly...

    Slow keezer build

Couldn't resist the deal on the Frigidaire, eh? I just ordered the same one.

    The hell is this?

Abbey something... Oh, yes! Abbey Ale, that was it.

    Adventures in Wort Scorching

I'd say that it's only a problem if it impacts the flavor of your wort. Is there some part about which you're specifically concerned? A little scorched wort is not a big deal, aside from a little extra scrubbing

Is there any hope for hop mellowing?

I wish I could update this without bumping it up, but oh well. It drives me nuts when I search for and find a relevant thread with no updates, so I thought I'd update this one. After all these months, the remaining bottles of this beer have become quite good indeed. The bitterness has faded...

    Just moved to Dallas area

It's been nuts for a couple years, now. The only reason we were able to buy our house in 2013 was because we found out about it before it even hit the market. We had been getting massively outbid on houses that we didn't even really like, but were just trying to get in to something. Cheers on...

    Yes, another first timer

Man, I get it. With my first beer, all I wanted to do was pop that top off and get a peep at what was going on inside. Instead, though, I followed the Homebrewer's Credo (RDWHAHB - relax, don't worry, have a home brew) and let it do it's own thing. When I thought it was done and I couldn't wait...

    Capping

Send the twist-offs to the recycling plant. As I understand it, the neck/top glass on those is too thin to take the pressure of capping and carbonating.

    H.e.l.p

I'll preface this response by saying that I absolutely hate the smell of bleach, so you'd never catch me using it to sanitize unless I was in a serious sanitation crisis, like discovering on brew day that I don't have any StarSan. That being said, it's still a valid chemical to use to sanitize...

    First Hard Cider

I did a batch of cider, and didn't get a krausen at all, so I wouldn't worry about that. It bubbled away for maybe a week? I also let it sit on the primary cake for about 6 months after primary fermentation was done (to the point of total inactivity), so I wouldn't worry about that either...
