I have a Stainless Coil that I chill my wort with, my question is how long does it take the Blichmann plate chiller to cool a 10 gallon batch. My stainless coil takes a good hour to cool a 10 gal batch. My coil is only a 3/8 diameter by 50ft and I feel an hour is too long, I want to upgrade...

    Palcohol? Given the green light.

This term is all new to me, I had to read up on it. So, I'm watching Fox25 news channel when they announced that the "Green Light" is given for sales in the US but it's up to individual states to approve it's own sales on this powdery beverage. lol Who's going to give Palcohol a try? I...

I use a 0.045 crush. It came preset on the Monster Mill. The instructions were in with one of the Blichmann products when I opened the box, I'm not sure which one but I would guess the false bottom or one of the kettles; I'll check when I get home. They basically said what I posted, stop...

Just my observation, when the sight glass bottoms out as you mentioned, ( I'm using the 1.25 orifice) I found the cause was a stuck sparge or at least a slowed one. I shut the valve in the MT off, same for the pump and stirred the grain bed all the way to the false bottom removing what feels...

Leave the lid on the mashtun as much as possible. It helps keep the temp difference between the pots near zero. With the lid off it will be 3 to 4 degrees difference. I crush my grains to 0.045. I had a stuck sparge but my efficiency was good.

I am going to do a 10 gallon batch of a Labatt Blue clone which is a Pilsner and a staple around here. I'll definitely start a new thread with updates reporting time, losses and upload pictures.

I ordered a 15 gal and a 20 gal G2's with the stacking kit that came with the auto-sparge with intentions of manual throttling a propane burner at first with the electric Tower of Power controller and BoilCoil to follow. Only after one 10 gal batch freezing my a** outside I couldn't do another...

Me too, I basically did what hmattar suggested. I removed the hose from the auto-sparge on the MT and lowered it near the floor allowing gravity to siphon wort into the pump. Once the wort was passed the pump I returned the hose to the auto-sparge. This phenomenon is common and it is called...

Here is the reason for discontinuing sales in Canada. "neither the Boil Coil or Tower of Power are CSA approved. Henceforth they will discontinue shipping those products into Canada. They are working on the certification for the Boil Coil however they will not be pursuing certification for...

Yes you should, as the outer threads on the bushing are NPT threads. So my new controller has a bolt inside the case that tumbles around. For what this thing cost, I expected a lot better. I called Ontario Beer Keg where I made the purchase, the guy on the phone told me not to "freak...

I want to clear any confusion that I may have caused. I just opened my electric control module and had a look at the temperature sensor's threads and what Danam404 has posted is correct, you don't use tape on the threads. The sensor's threads are not NPT tapered threads used on threaded...

Galling is a real problem. If any heat or binding in the threads occurs, the threads will literally weld together at any point. Any pipe thread will bind, it is engineered to do just that, bind and make a tight seal. Tape should be used on NPT fittings, stainless steel or not. My question...

Im trying to make a beginners wine(please help)

Use your hydrometer to get the amount of sugar necessary, add sugar, check balling. Keep adding sugar till your potential alcohol by volume is 18% stirring all the while. Add sugar slowly till you get the idea of how much sugar does what to the hydrometer. 18% will take 4 weeks to ferment...

I ordered an electric controller a month ago, it is suppose to be here Thursday along with the boil coil element so that means I'll be brewing this weekend. Awesome. My plan was to install the probe as you are but I want to put it before the pump in a tee because I have a throttling...

Can I still pitch yeast into wort?

I'm no expert at brewing but here is my opinion, if kept covered and sterile, covered being the only way I could see it staying sterile; then follow the instructions on the yeast pack and pitch away.

Sorry about that, I was busy at sea while at work when I made my speedy reply. I had taken my sparge arm with me when I picked up the threaded stock and asked for 1/4 inch as I handed him the arm but the helpful hand at the store never corrected me as I miss spoke, he passed me the correct...

    Corn mash/wort help

I called the distributor, and asked him, he chuckled. He said "no no, heavens no". He then said " if it was milled for human consumption, then it would have pesticides/preservatives to keep bugs from hatching in less than two week." I asked him for the number to call the supplier to see...
