Using a blender instead of a grain mill?

Thanks for the reply. What do you think about the combination of hops? I don't want to ruin this batch by dryhopping with a combination of hops that doesn't make sense... I have no problem leaving one or two of those additions out.

Using a blender instead of a grain mill?

Just a quick update... Had no issues using the blender, but doing one cup of grain at a time took FOREVER! Doing much more than a cup would turn the grain at the bottom into dust before anything from the top could get down to the blades. I think my OG was somewhere right around 1.06 - 1.065...

Using a blender instead of a grain mill?

Thanks, Ungoliant. This confirms everything I've been reading. I think I need to start having grains triple crushed as well. I going to try the blender... I'll post back and let you all know how it goes.

Using a blender instead of a grain mill?

I'm about to try my 3rd version of an american IPA(brew in a bag) and I was wondering if running the grain through a blender would help in extracting more flavor/sugar outta the grain? I actually saw this done on an episode of 'moonshiners.' I've read a few conversations on this topic, but...

Crap! Meant to put this is the BIAB forum! I'll delete this and re-post.

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

Do you re-rack to a secondary before you cold crash? Also, can you dry hop at the same time you pitch the yeast?? Or will that cause problems w/fermentation? I'm just not a fan of opening up the beer to air until the moment I keg it. I think I infected a batch recently while dry hopping.

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

Do you do any filtering to get the yeast out or just let it settle out? Thanks! I'm thinking about not doing any dry-hopping this time. Shouldn't change it too much, right?

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

I think this was the biggest problem. I'm going to make sure I continue to do a better of filtering my batches.

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

I'm not sure I'm describing what's going on properly. I would like to tone down the bitterness just a bit to see what I get, but with this batch, everytime I take a drink, it's like the hops stick to the back of my tongue. I feel like it would have probably turned out a whole lot better had I...

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to try combining a few ideas and give it a shot this weekend.

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

Yes, it's a 60 min boil. Should I focus on the Simcoe hops only? Maybe add then a little later in the boil and/or reduce the amount?

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

I brewed this up a little over a month ago and while I like it, I'd like to dial the bitterness down just a bit. Here are the hop additions: Hops: 1 oz. Simcoe - at the start 2 oz. Amarillo - w/15 min left and 10 min left. 1.5 oz. Cascade - for dry hopping. Recipe...

Cleaning tap lines after an infected batch of beer

I'm still not 100% sure on this. I did switch to using a filter, but it might have been right after this batch. I ended up taking the safest route... I tore my equipment apart and after I scrub it down I'm going to hit it with starsan.

Cleaning tap lines after an infected batch of beer

Most of what you are talking about is over my head right now. The beer I suspected of being infected was a witbier... not sure if that makes any difference, But I'm not taking chances. I tore everything apart and I'm now soaking it in hot soapy water. Both lines were actually turning yellow...

Cleaning tap lines after an infected batch of beer

Could an infection continue to live in nylon tubing... and if so, could it possibly get into the keg and ruin the next batch?

Cleaning tap lines after an infected batch of beer

Just wanted to run this by everyone to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Towards the end of my last batch, I noticed a band aide type of smell. The beer didn't taste weird, but the odor was definitely there. Band aide means an infection, right? So I emptied what was left in the sanke and...

Thanks! I'm all set up to brew an American IPA this evening! Hopefully all goes well :tank:

Kettle value for 15.5 gal sanke

That's not quite it.. I'll have to look around and see if I still have the package. I do know that I used a 7/8" hole saw on it. Let me know if you have any questions... that was my first time drilling and cleaning a keg as well. Just found it: LINK Mine is a one piece with 3/8 NPT on the...

    Dry yeast starter?

Thanks for the replies, I'm glad I asked first. But I have another question. I just looked at the package of yeast and it says use by 9/15. I pulled this from the frig of the LHBS and put it straight in my fridge. Is it ok, to use it this week when I brew?
