question: Where to buy quality replacement fliptops?

Does anyone know where to find quality replacement swing/flip tops. All of mine are the cheep ones that have most of the chrome plating flaking off. They still work but look very badley corroded. Any oxidizing sanitizer will very quickly corrode these cheep ones. I thought it was just a...

    Infection even before pitching yeast

OMG this is a very dangerous situation. I think what you should do is let the fermentation complete. Then bottle up this batch of beer and send it to me. I will conduct some very scientific tests. I may even need to bring in some outside help to determine exactly what properties are present...

    floating thermometer sunk/melted

Ok, I have been brewing for a while but this is a first for me. I left my floating thermometer in my wort while boiling. I don't usually do this but I just forgot to take it out. Anyway the heavy-end plastic melted and the shot fell out into my wort and the whole thing filled up with wort. I...

    No Carbontion, yeast dead?

Well, It's been a few weeks. Any carbonation?

Chlorine for sanitation: any input on this?

Wither a chemical is a weak vs a strong acid or base is not dependent on the concentration (dilution) molarity of the aqueous solution, but is dependent on the chemicals ability to gain or release hydrogen protons. Bleach is considered a "strong" base and acetic acid (vinegar) is considered a...

Chlorine for sanitation: any input on this?

Ok, I am tempted to go into a long discussion of the chemical properties of chlorine bleach but I think that would probably be a waste of time. So here is another reason that you may understand. Don't mix chlorine bleach with any acid. Toxic chlorine vapor is produced.

Chlorine for sanitation: any input on this?

OK, before you start mixing acids and bases togeather lets think about this, a little bit of basic chemistry: Acids are acids because they donate Hydrogen protons, (H) . Bases are bases because they take on or bind with hydrogen protons. Hydroxides such as (OH) readily combine with excess...

    No Carbontion, yeast dead?

This has happened to me a couple of times. At 3 weeks no carbonation. However, after 6 weeks carbonation was near normal. I put it down to the yeast. I had waited a couple of days longer than normal prior to bottling and I was using a yeast that vas highly floculant so vary few live yeast...

    Repitching on Yeast Cake (Twice)

Good info in the links posted. I now realize that I really have been doing everything wrong. Please don't tell my yeast. They may decide to stop producing good beer. Cheers :mug:

    Repitching on Yeast Cake (Twice)

I also never wash yeast. I know that many brewers swear by it but I never have seen a good reason to do it. I just save about 8 oz of good trub yeast from the bottom of my primary in a "clean jar". I usually use it within a few weeks so I know it's still alive. Anyway I have reused the same...

    need some pruning advice

So how many bines did you allow to grow from each plant?

    need some pruning advice

Ok, so I planted 2 jumbo rhyzomes about 30 feet apart. I know I should have bought about a dozen but I decided to start small. So each rhyzome has maybe 4 or 5 "bines" climbing up two ropes. My question is: how many bines from each rhyzome should I be trying to grow? I know that the each...

What happens to yeast when pitching at 88 deg?

For me, my go no go is 75 degrees. As long as I can keep my beer below 75 during the initial days of rappid fermetation, I know that my beer will taste good. I try to pitch at 70 or below, but not much below because I don't like long lag times. I use WLP 007 yeast and it leaves my beer very...

    weed wacked hops

Actually, I did call the landscapper and left a couple of messages. He did not return my call but I am sure he recieved the message. The only thing I really want from him is some assurance that it won't happen again. I have blocked around the bottom of my vines with some small ornate fence...

    weed wacked hops

Thanks again guys. Yes this was the first year for my hops. I do now have a couple more shoots that are shooting up. This was an irritating setback but I am learning from the experience. I only planted a couple of cascade rhizomes because I wasn't too sure I could grow them successfully, and...

    weed wacked hops

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to put some fencing up around the plants. I can't see how anyone could "mistake" these plants for a weed but the moron that did it was obviously smoking some kind of weed.

    weed wacked hops

My F--ing neighbor's lawn service weed wacked my hop vines. I had four vines climbing up ropes near my neighbor's fence. (on my property of course) They were up to about 4-5 feet. Now the vines need to start over from the ground up. Grrrrrr

    Plastic bucket from Austin ?

Mike you may have the wrong lid. I have several of these buckets that all are about the same size but take slightly different lids. Guess what, sometimes I get the lids mixed up and have to measure the lid and bucket diameter to get them sorted out.
