Looking for a recipe involving long conditioning

The title sums it up. I've just been given 40 extra swing top bottles and would like to brew a batch that I can let sit for years, enjoying a few bottles on special occasions. I'm looking for an Extract recipe that would involve bottle conditioning for 1+ years. I'd like to stay away from...

    Sanatation Techniques

I have a question ... I was listening to a Podcast (Basic Brewing Network) and they had the owner of Iodophor on. He was talking about people using a spray bottle (full of diluted Iodophor) and just coating everything you were planning on using with spray. He said that that was all that was...

    My bottling first ...

After 2 weeks in the primary and checking my Hydrometer (og: 1.60 ... fg: 1.10) I decided to bottle my Paulaner Hefe clone. I bottled around 3 gallons of brew before I realized how parched I was. I fill up half a pint of my clone and start drinking it. After I bottle a couple more beers...

    Is my dad nuts?

Doing partial-boils does not "water" down your beer. You're still adding the same ingredients to the beer, just only boiling 1.5 - 3 gallons of water instead of a 5 gallon boil. While doing full boils will give you more control over your beer, you can still make a helluv a good beer with...

first brew has finally melowed a bit

what was the OG? High OGs can take a while in the bottle to mellow out.

    new brewer--- a bit worried

You'd be safe leaving it in the primary for 2 weeks. I generally follow the 1 - 2 - 3 rule. 1 week in primary (1 week after fermentation begins) - 2 weeks in secondary - 3 weeks in the bottle (though I usually start "taste testing" after 2 weeks) I'd say if you are not getting any...

    Brew Kit?

I bought that very same kit. It's a great investment ;) FatTire was my first brew as well! Good luck with your new found obsession.

Will my beer ever taste good?

I wouldn't toss them ... I'd consider mixing 1/2 bad beer with 1/2 of a store bought beer in a pint glass and enjoy ;)

    Cost and Commitment

For me, Brewing is perfect. I started by spending roughly $200 (intermediate kit plus 40 swingtop bottles). I sold my PS2 with all my games to get my initial cost to about 60 dollars. I then began buying kits at AHS (30 - 50 a pop), but now have the confidence to walk into a LHBS and get my...

    Fermentation Problem?

Hehe, it's quite scary from what I hear. My neighbor's first batch were bottle bombs ... the bad part was he gave them out as Xmas presents. He had people calling the next week all ranging from  to  Though he was lucky (or unlucky) enough to see one explode, he said it...

    Fermentation Problem?

With a FG of 1.20, you might want to be careful about bottle bombs. If one or 2 of them explode, put them in the fridge asap. It really depends on how high the SG was, but be aware of that.

    Last Nights Brew Session

A couple firsts for me. #1 First Hefe #2 First time using a Starter I finished up last night around 11pm and woke up at 6 to notice that it was already bubbling. :ban: I'll always be making a starter from now on! A few questions. I've read the Hefe's can have a quick and violent...

    Starter Question

I'm going to be doing my 5th batch soon and was wondering if instead of DME I could use LME for the starter? It's going to be an extract brew, so I was wondering if I could use some of the LME that I'll be using in the actual beer making. If I can use LME, how much should I use? If it's...

    We already KNEW this!

Hey, a book even says "Men are from Mars". So if Mars has fast days like Mercury, I'm good to go. [edit] No good, one day on Mars is 24 hours and 40 minutes. Boo, hiss Though happy I"m not from Venus ... one day on Venus is 240 earth days.
