Slight off taste confirmed by IrregularPulse

My boil pot is a 4 gallon stainless steel pot. Normally I do a 3.5 gallon boil and top it off to 5 gallons once it hits the fermentor. To prepare my priming solution I normally boil the corn sugar (usually around 1 cup) for about 10 min. Once the sugar is dissolved I put ½ of the solution into...

Classic Style Smoked Beer Loon Lake Smoked Porter (Award Winner)

Just stumbled across this thread after a brew day with IrregularPulse on this recipe. Everything went great except for a minor boil over (took eyes off boil kettle while ordering some pizza). I live about an hour away from where we brewed, and pitched once I got home. Took the OG at home and it...

Bottling beer in 2 liter "Diet Coke" or "Diet Pepsi" bottles

It seems like the general consensus is that 2 liters are OK except that they you need to drink quickly after opening (shouldn't be a problem). Thanks for all of the great replies.

Bottling beer in 2 liter "Diet Coke" or "Diet Pepsi" bottles

I will be bottling my most current batch (Scottish Export) of brew later this week and was thinking of using some 2 liter bottles. The 2 liters contained “Diet Coke” and “Diet Pepsi”. I haven’t decided if I should risk it. So my question is: Has anyone had good/bad...

What time do you plan to be driving through Columbus?

    LHBS in Columbus, Oh

Unfortunately those are the only two that I know about. Will watch this thread to see if anyone knows of others.

We live in Hilliard, so we aren't too far from Clintonville. There are a few other microbrews that I like (IMHO Barleys is the best): Gordon Biersch ( in arena district) & Columbus Brewing company (Brewery district). The Winking Lizard has a really nice selection of micos and obscure commercial...

BTW I have plans to pick up a new carboy for the Brew Day. Figure I should probably have a few spares in cases like this.... :mug:

Do you swing through columbus often? If so, I would definately be up for a few beers at Barleys (or where ever), almost any other time (daughter has swim lessons on Tuesday nights). Did you post the recipe anywhere?

Man, I wish I didn't already have plans tomorrow. If you haven't been there before, you should definately check out Barley's (1130 DUBLIN RD, COLUMBUS). They have a bunch of stuff they brew and a good selection of other Micros. They usually have something in the cask also. If you get there...

The "official" what/how YOU started thread

After graduating college I moved to Cleveland for a job. Not knowing anyone in the area my fiance introduced me to one of her friends husband. We hung out quite frequently and got to be good friends. One day (in 2001) he mentioned that he had found this place called “The Brew Kettle&#8221...

I haven't tried it before, but will look for it tonight when i swing through Krogers. Just curious, what does "BMC" stand for?

    new from Ohio

I live in Columbus and drive through Mansfield on my way to Cleveland. I got my start with a Brewers Best kit also. Have you decided on an ingredient kit yet? I made the Dortmunder kit which turned out real good.

    Need some reassurance...

Normally when I think I screwed up a batch everything turns out ok. Unfortunately only time will tell.

    Second batch, in the keg...wahoo!!!

Good idea on the casters. They will definately add some mobility and be very useful. Not a bad price for the kegs either. I haven't made the jump yet to kegging, but plan to later this year. Bottling is something I could do without. Anyway, good luck building up your system.

    Weird bottling problem

Probably the rubber seals. I have a few of the same bottles and periodically need to replace them.

Am I the only person on this forum who likes beer?

After reading through all 11 pages of this post i think it is safe to say that....Yes.....We all like beer.... So no...You are not the only one...

    Second batch, in the keg...wahoo!!!

I checked out your blog. You have a pretty sweet setup. I liked the brew table. Seems like that would be pretty convenient when you boil. I have also been looking at kegging kits on craigslist. What kind of a deal did you find?

    An Interesting Batch

Read DeathBrewer thread also and am going to give it a show on my next batch. IMHO his method seemed like a pretty good alternative to full all grain.
