    Nitro beer help needed!!

I haven't found an exact science for carbing with CO2 and then switching to nitro but I just leave it on for a week at 7-8lbs and then switch it over. Never felt over-carbed. As far as time lapse after switching to nitro, the way I see it (opinion only) is that the nitro has to have time to...

    Beer gun foam hell

I had a lot of foam with the Beer Gun bottling from my kegerator when I first got it and it was driving me crazy. I lengthened the liquid line to 20ft and keep the PSI same pressure as serving pressure (12-14) to keep the CO2 from coming out of solution. I get extremely minimal foaming when...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Cannot agree with this more! Yesterday, I opened my first bottle of this beer of which I followed your recipe for the most part, but I added a touch of Crystal to give it more of an orange color and it turned out great. The best IPA I have brewed by far, not even close. I did go with 1oz of...

    Brewing my first Hefeweizen

Second that this yeast goes nuts. It's a top-cropping beast. I have a hefe finishing primary right now. Tasted a sample at about 1.013 and taste was straight banana, no clove but I kind of like it. It will probably fade but was very interested. I usually ferment them at 68-69 but this one was...

    The Big Three should die

Thank you, I was wondering when someone was going to point out that Ballast Point, et al who have been bought out, have been put out of business and no new micro breweries are starting up anywhere!!

Is this an American Blonde? Existential Crisis.

The malty sweetness will probably fade a bit with carbonation. To me, looks like it fits.

can't get that big juicy hop flavor in my IPA's

Can you post a sample recipe or amount of hops? I just made an IPA with 1oz Warrior at 60min, 3oz at 0min, 3oz for whirlpool at 185, 3oz for dry hop in primary and finished with 1oz in secondary before bottling. It tastes like hop juice. 11oz total hops for 5.5g. Read through the thread titled...

    Reuse yeast cake

If it's going that quickly I would check now. I pitched on a 1318 London Ale III cake the beer before last and it was finished within 5 days. I am fermenting a hefe on 3068 now, brewed Saturday at 1.042 and down to 1.012 after just two days.

    Fermentis Safcider

It looks like the same yeast strain as Lalvin EC-1118 (Saccharomyces bayanus I think?). I have only used 1118 for my ciders and love the resulting dry cider. This looks like it will do the same but for 4x the price. Might be worth a try though.

    Grainfather!!

I noticed the very bad plastic/vinyl smell from the CFC from day one after unboxing and sanitizing (could smell it coming from the wort out hose, too). I have two brews done so far and neither of them have an off flavor. One in the keg and one in the fermenter. I was worried about it ruining my...

    Sparging on the Grainfather

RMCB was referencing his absorption rate on the grain father which is more of a traditional mash not BIAB. My last brew on the grainfather was 10lb grain bill and I mashed with 5g and sparged with 4g and ended with 6g after chilling. So his claim of 1g absorption for 16lbs of grains seems...

    Sparging on the Grainfather

How is it possible for 16lbs of grain to only absorb 1 gallon of water when mashed? Doesn't absorption run about 1-1.25 qt/lb???

    Grainfather!!

Did my first brew with the GF last night. A weeknight is definitely not the best to use a new system for the first time. I started at 5:30 and finished at 11:00. It will take some time getting used to; the chilling and cleaning more than anything else. I was <4hrs with my cooler/kettle set up so...

Imperial A24 Dry Hop Ale Yeast

Aslin in Herndon? I haven't been there yet. I'll have to check it out. Have you been to Ocelot? Great IPAs out there, not hazy but still great. Yours looks great too, btw. I was checking out the Imperial line last time I was at the LHBS. I'll have to give them a go.

What to do with Pure Nitro?

Cold brew coffee is great with pure nitro!!

I never calculate mash/sparge water volumes but I think I should

You used 17 gallons of total mash/sparge water for a 14# grain bill???? Wowzers. Should be roughly half that for a 5 gallon batch, after adjusting for dead space, beer left in fermenter, etc. Definitely have to calculate your water volumes, I've never not calculated them with all-grain. I just...

    Interesting German Brewing PDF

In 55 pages I have not seen any DO results from finished products, or products using one half of the method or the other (did I miss it?). Since you stopped posting and berating everyone who questions something (while providing no proof just saying "it works"), there has been very interesting...

    Grainfather!!

Really wish I had mine, it's been a week since I shipped it back after arriving dented (kettle and basket) and have no date of a replacement shipping out yet. It's killing me I would be doing my second brew in it this Saturday if I had it!

Could you tell me the best recipe of Witbier

I made a witbier very similar to your version 1 recipe. I used WB-06 too. Was a great beer. I would go with that recipe. If you're going for a Blue Moon style wit, maybe change the yeast but I hate Blue Moon and WB-06 is made for this style and is head and shoulders above the profile you would...
