    Portland Hops Growing?

Anybody in Portland OR getting growth out of their hops? This rain is killing me. Got about 3' on a Zeus, but my Willamette and Magnum are only about 12" or so, which seems way behind from what I saw last year (all plants are 2nd years). Just curious if anyone else in NW is having better success...

    Blow-off beat down

I get the better to have it than not mentality, but how much headspace are you guys leaving? I go 5 or 5.5 gallons in a 6 gallon carboy and seems like I've never even really been close to blowing through the airlock.

    My hops are up!! (pics)

One of my plants has an exposed root bulb like that as well. I think the soil settled or got washed away in a heavy rain or something. no harm to the shoots, all looks good, so probably nothing to worry about on yours.

thanks smagee, i'll give it a whirl. I like hop heavy beers, so I think i'll drop all the Cascades in at 60. The Willamettes are definitely better when used under 30 mins. I've had a couple batches where I had them in for the entire boil and both didn't turn out that great. I'm not exactly sure...

Yeast Washing - signs of contamination?

About 3 weeks ago I took my first shot at yeast washing and was pretty careful to follow all the standard protocals I found throughout these threads; boiled my water and mason jars, cooled the water overnight, washed twice, kept the jars covered while they settled, and ended up with what looked...
