  1. Brews and Blues

Pressure fermentation in the same keg that the beer gets served from.

For a blow off tube, would you do just a ball lock connector with tubing coming off of the gas post into a bucket of water? I may go this route just so i don't create a mess

    Should I rack to secondary

Yeah that is the entire reason i want to start fermenting in my serving keg. No chance of oxidation. The less i have to fumble around with the beer, the better.

    Should I rack to secondary

Before my autosiphon, i tried this method... watched youtube videos over and over. I eventually got it but the very next day i bought an autosiphon because it was so frustrating. I have no doubt that after a few brews, i could have gotten it down. But there is no way that what i did that day...

Pressure fermentation in the same keg that the beer gets served from.

Awesome thanks! My next question was going to be fermentation PSI because my spunding valve can be calibrated to the desired level. I'm pretty excited about this. Between this and controlling fermentation temps, I feel like I am starting to up my game a bit. My goal is to make better beer but do...

Pressure fermentation in the same keg that the beer gets served from.

Alright guys, i have a spunding valve and floating dip tube with filter on its way. I also bought and inkbird and a chest freezer for temp control. I am really interested in fermentation in the serving keg just to save from cleaning and siphoning. So my next brew is a black IPA kit using US-05...

    Temp Control

Well **** LOL. I just looked and the inkbird is rated at 10A. I'm not home so not sure what that freezer draws. Online, a typical freezer draws 5A and close to 10A at start up, so i might be good. This is a pretty typical chest freezer so fingers crossed. Thanks alot for the heads up. I wouldn't...

Pressure fermentation in the same keg that the beer gets served from.

I am interested in this method to save myself some time cleaning equipment and siphons. Is a spunding valve necessary to ferment in a corny? Or can it be done without?
  8. Brews and Blues

    Temp Control

Ok the kit has US-05 which i assumed it did, but wanted to make sure. Judging by past threads, it looks like that yeast is pretty forgiving. I definitely want to try out the inkbird though so even though US-05 has a wide range, what do you guys think? 62-65 F? I have realized over time that the...

    Temp Control

I knew that was going to be the next question, and for some reason it doesn't list it online. I will check that out tonight when I get home.
  10. Brews and Blues

    Temp Control

I just bought myself an Inkbird. I feel like controlling temps is my next step in improving. Can i use this with a deep freezer instead of a refrigerator? I'm sure it will work, but didn't know if anyone had experience using a chest style deep freezer... Also, my next brew is a Black IPA kit...

Rushing the fermentation process to force keg and serve early?

Now that you mention it... what is the difference? Is there an IBU cut off for Pale Ales to where it becomes an IPA?

    Using Two Bottling Buckets

This is weird that you posted this.... i have been thinking of using my bottling bucket as a fermenter and skipping the siphoning process. My siphon works great, but it would make my cleaning process easier if i could skip it
  13. Brews and Blues

    IPA possibly too bitter

It hurts my soul to dump a beer, either mine or store bought.
  14. Brews and Blues

I brewed a favorite recipe today

Sounds awesome! Let us know how it turns out. I just picked up some light Muntuns DME for my next brew's base as well. I'm also interested in that 30min boil... so let me know if you like that better than a 60min as I am trying to throw together my first recipe and leave the kits behind.

Stupid questions that don't all deserve a thread

I need to do some research on this. I think this is where I want to end up. When fermenting in kegs, do you transfer to a different keg after fermentation? And wont the trub end up right at the bottom and be the first thing to come out when transferring?
  16. Brews and Blues

Stupid questions that don't all deserve a thread

Yes it looks exactly like my fermenter bucket other than the hole for the spigot. My only concern is getting that cheap plastic spigot to seal perfectly during fermentation. I remember having just a bit of a leak when I used to bottle. But man, I would love to never touch the auto siphon again...

    First time brewer, eggs smell

I had this for the first time on my last brew. Let it go for a full three weeks. The smell will go away and it is normal. But that extra time in the fermenter will help.

Stupid questions that don't all deserve a thread

Hey guys, I have a few questions, but didn't feel like starting a new thread for each one because they are all very minor. So minor in fact that I almost feel stupid asking them. But nevertheless, I am going to anyway 😂 1) Currently I brew in plastic buckets. I have been looking at upgrades...
