    Fermonster as bottling bucket?

I've done it but not with the fermonster, optionally you can use your boil kettle as a bottling bucket. You likely already have a dip tube on it. This is what i primarily use now especially since I have a spare now that I've upgraded to a larger kettle.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

My ingredients for the robust porter recipe along with the Lutra arrived today. Just finished the brew day and ended up .002 gravity points higher than expected. I discovered prior to milling that my mill gap had crept out of spec, i.e. my calibrated credit card lol. I also found out just how...

    Omega Lutra yeast?

@Twinkeelfool It may not make it that long :mischievous: but I'll try to keep my hands off it for sake of experimentation

    Omega Lutra yeast?

I've heard similar reports from others that the yeast character drops off but wasn't sure if that would translate to any negative effects after say 6+ months in the bottle.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

@BongoYodeler, I'd be happy to post back with my impressions. Wondering if anyone has aged any beers using Lutra or Kviek in general? May put away a few bottles after packaging to see how it develops.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Just ordered grains for a robust porter recipe I'm going to try with Lutra. In the past I've underpitched to stress the yeast but I'll pitch the whole pouch with this one and see how it goes. Interested to see the results.

    So many kettles

My only negative to my SS Brewtechs, owned both a 5.5 and now a 10 gal, are the additional ports I don't use. Ideally I would have gone with a Spike with nothing but a butterfly valve and a port for the electric element. Ultimately went with SS Brewtech because of the sale they have going on. My...

    Kveik Voss question

I actually just checked on a beer I bottled right before Thanksgiving with Lallemand. It has sat around in the fermenter for 3 weeks because I got busy and is crystal clear, still prefer the flavor I got from Loki though. Carbonation level is good after only 10 days conditioning.

    Kveik Voss question

I've used both lallemand and imperials voss yeast and despite it being reported as a hard flocculating yeast I haven't seen it clear up like other yeast. As far as fermentation time so far 3-4 days is the longest I've had to wait to get to FG using only 1/4 tsp for 3G batches. The biggest...

    Grainfather recipe edits

I'm not familiar with the GF but here is a link to an article that might help, granted it doesn't account for losses and simply explains how to adjust based on volume and efficiency. Hope this helps. https://homebrewanswers.com/scaling-beer-recipes-by-volume-and-efficiency/

Added too little water to my extract

Yes topping up with boiled and cooled water would have been the best option but since you knew both your current and target gravity a calculator such as this ---> Dilution And Boiloff Gravity Calculator - Brewer's Friend would have given you the exact amount of water needed to reach the desired...

What BIAB brewing actually is (Mythbusting for traditionalists)

@Bobby_M...great write up and I agree on all points. It's crazy to me that this method still has to be defended but I'm glad this is now a sticky so new brewers or lurkers trying to decide what kind of system to go with can weigh out things for themselves. @soccerdad I'm glad you brought up Pat...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I don't have anything fermenting at the moment as I just bottled up a batch. What I do though is pull a sample after I have added, oxygenated, and mixed the yeast and add this to the hydrometer flask and place it in the ferm chamber with my fermenter. When the hydrometer sample reaches my...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I do something similar with a extra hydrometer & flask I have so I get constant gravity readings. No airlock. Plus it takes less volume since I'm only using enough to float the hydrometer.

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

After adding your priming sugar through the funnel you could gently stir and let it sit for 45 mins to an hour before bottling. I always let my fermenters settle a bit when I bottle just in case anything stirred up with the move from the mini fridge to the counter. If you don't want to stir then...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

I hope it works better for you, I just tossed my old 3 gallon FF a week ago after losing an entire batch due to the dump valve failing during a mason jar change out. Twisting the lid on and off multiple times will help with the seal on top though. Good luck!

    DIY Counterpressure filler

I would much rather spend on the low end or the middle vs high end but I understand the point you're making. To me being able to break it all down and use the pieces elsewhere gives it more value than being a single function piece of equipment and since I'm already planning to use the Duotight...

    DIY Counterpressure filler

I saw that one a while back when I was researching these and wondered how well they worked and how sturdy the picnic taps are. I've seen several places that the picnic tap tends to break fairly often but at that price point you could afford to pick up a few extras. I'd be using EvaBarrier line...

    DIY Counterpressure filler

That's pretty much the consensus I've seen/read from anyone using them. I think Lowe's has a product called Shark-Bite that are push-in fittings but I couldn't find them in the sizes that would be used in kegging systems and they weren't cheaper either if memory serves. No discouragement taken lol.
