Sounds fairly normal for someone at Ferris! Do you still go there? I just graduated.

    dirty, dirty, dirty...... yiikes....

I use a little bleach, but I'm with you - I just want to brew drinkable beer and have fun. Worrying is not fun.... I just recently started using a refractometer just to make sure that I was hitting a reasonable og. I have a perfectionist brewing friend that have me an earful when I said I early...

You know you have made a good beer when..

This is true, I'll run that theory past the wife and see what happens. Nice knowing you all!!!

You know you have made a good beer when..

When, after cracking open the first bottle, you wake up the next day only to find your entire stash is completely gone.

    Brooklyn beer kit

I started with Mr beer....was really getting to think making beer was lame, but then I found a bbs kit and was hooked on all grain. no, the kit isn't cost effective - but are any kits? It was a great way to get started into something that I never would have tried.

    Michigan Hops!

Hey! My parents live near that farm. The greater TC area has quite a few little hop farms actually.

making a starter for a 1 gallon batch.

Hey everyone, I'm a one gallon brewer, and currently use dry yeast for my batches. This is based on cost because I brew about once a week, live over an hour from the nearest hbs. I would like to try some liquid yeast but dumping $8 of yeast is expensive. Therefore, I want to start washing...

First All Grain, OG a Bit Under

I have the same problem, only hot 50% on my last batch. It happened to be a blonde ale so I added a bit of honey to get it to a reasonable og. I use a corona mill, cooler mlt and just recently started caring about my readings. (shame shame I know....) But improving my process is why I love...

    Cost Analysis

I wiped up a spread sheet that can put together a cost analysis if your interested. Its basic, but makes it a little more simple to figure out your costs. I guess one thing that I figure is that although I would like to see my cost LESS than store bought, I do have fun brewing - and being a...

    2 Gallon Mash Tun?

The round 2 gallon cooler that I use odd a Coleman stacker (I think] it was only $8. Course, I spent a fortune on hardware. Ball valve with a barb works great. I used the braided stainless steal toilet tube for a strainer....but I think I'm going to go the paint bag (or a small bucket w holes)...

    Why Not? (a hydrometer question)

That's why I was thinking it would be better to drop it in after the transfer. The bubble point id a good one. Thanks for the points, not something I'll do...but just thought if get some input

    Why Not? (a hydrometer question)

I brew small one gallon and recently started using a refractometer. I just had a random thought: Why not just have a few extra hydrometers and leave them in the carboy? This scheme would probably be better suited for the secondary, but you wouldn't have to keep opening up you r carboy to take...

    Why is brewing addictive?

It gives me a hobby that falls outside of my typical interests. As an engineer/designer, my interests often lead me to stare at a computer - something I already do 9 hours a day. Brewing beer occupies my time, gives me a creative outlet and gets me a little buzzed now and then. Since...
