How to Cold Crash in Fermonster with Airtight Lid?

Thanks for the suggestion! That looks slick.

How to Cold Crash in Fermonster with Airtight Lid?

In order to start doing simple closed transfers with a 3-gallon Fermonster with a spigot I just added a ball lock gas post to one of the sealed Fermonster lids. I'll use a quick disconnect and a blowoff tube during fermentation and I'm clear on how to do the transfer to the keg. What I'm...

    Fermentation Chamber Buildout

I finally got my act together and came up with a fermentation chamber! I learned so much from reading all the posts about what others came up with for fermentation chambers, so I figured I'd share my end results to contribute to the collective knowledge (for better or worse). Thanks to all for...

    What are you drinking now?

This was a quick 1-gallon MoreBeer Citra Pale Ale kit I finally got around to brewing right before Christmas. Extract, 30-minute boil, and came out absolutely amazing. A bit of chill haze and it's only been in the keg a week, but low effort with fantastic results is definitely a big win with...

All my beers have this overpowering off flavor after bottling

My first best guess with "medical," if by that you mean plastic/"band-aid" flavors, would be chlorine. Particularly if it's consistent across all your batches I'd start there.

    1 Gal fermenters?

I have four 1-gallon plastic Little Big Mouth Bubblers and really like them. I also had a couple of 1-gallon Fermonsters and chucked them both. They're just smaller enough compared to the LBMBs that head space is an issue, they're flimsier/cheaper plastic, and they only have a gasket on one side...

How Fix LOTS of Condensation on Range Hood?

I finally got around to brewing a batch in the kitchen in the house, which has a much nicer, rear-venting range hood, and perhaps not surprisingly the condensation issue was still present. Regarding a steam condensing lid, it's an interesting option but ultimately it's a non-starter for me at...

Do I Need to Passivate a New Anvil Brew Kettle?

    Thanks! I appreciate the input.

Do I Need to Passivate a New Anvil Brew Kettle?

I'm gearing up to use my new Anvil 5.5 gallon brew kettle for the first time and after doing some searching I'm unclear if I need to passivate it or not. What's the collective wisdom here? And if passivation is a good idea, is this a good process to follow? Let the opinions fly! Thanks! :)

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Thanks Gary! Really appreciate the thoughts and you sharing your experiences. I think my next big expense will be a steam condensing hood (range hood I installed in my brewing space is just bad enough to be irritating) but a new AIO is high on the list, maybe right behind a kegerator. I'm...

    What are you drinking now?

This was a kit from SoCo Brewing -- quite tasty. Darker than some brown ales I've made and had, but it's nice and malty/toasty with just enough hop bitterness (Willamette) to balance things out. It's maybe slightly heavy on the chocolate malt but overall it works pretty well. Cheers all!

What are people brewing for the holidays?

I have some Nottingham and Windsor as well -- is it true what I've heard about Nottingham, namely that it's a beast? I got a six pack of the Great Lakes Christmas Ale and it's REALLY good, to me it has a nice dry finish, but if I was going to change anything at all, maybe a very slightly less...

What are people brewing for the holidays?

That's great to know! I watched a couple of videos about that one and was looking at that kit. I'm planning on doing a 2.5 gallon batch more or less following that recipe, using blackberry honey instead of clover honey (for that additional Northwest flair ...), and splitting it into two 1.25...

Is The Original Craft Beer Club slipping? What are good alternatives?

Any other members of The Original Craft Beer Club on here? If so, how's your experience been the last few months? I've been a member since 2019 and I'm not sure if they got bought or something, but I've had missed shipments, I've received the same beers 2-3 times in a row (at weird intervals)...

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Nice! I just ordered some of that, never had it. Can't wait to give it a try. Did you find a clone recipe that you like?

What are people brewing for the holidays?

That looks fantastic, and sounds like it tastes as good as it looks! Patience is definitely your friend in this hobby. I do a mix of extract and all-grain BIAB. Since I do mostly 1-gallon batches the Gigawort works well for small BIAB batches, but now that I'm rolling pretty well in my new...

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Yep that BYO article was great. I plugged that all into Brewfather to scale it down for a future batch. I hadn't heard of the Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale before, thanks for sharing! When done well (and not overdone) I really love the vanilla and oak combo.

How Fix LOTS of Condensation on Range Hood?

Thanks -- the other thing I'm going to try because my curiosity is killing me, is take my same pot and boil a couple of gallons of water for an hour on my kitchen stove in the house and see if I get condensation in there. My hypothesis is that I won't, but I'll find out later today. If I don't...

How Fix LOTS of Condensation on Range Hood?

Thanks, I'll look into this. My issue is I use different kettles based on batch size, and honestly in some cases "just cuz," so I may have to give up some of that flexibility. Appreciate the input.

How Fix LOTS of Condensation on Range Hood?

Thanks! I'll give it a shot without the filters and see if that helps. Appreciate the suggestion!
