    So...What just happened?

Had the house to myself today, and decided to make it a brew day. It turned out to be one of those brews days that happen from time to time. I sit here now trying to figure out what went wrong. Partial mash recipe- Target OG: 1.074ish.....Actual OG: 1.042... Recipe below, but here's the...

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

I had my LHBS dudes taste a sample today. Feedback was that it may be too much hop particle getting into primary, thus sitting on it too long. Trying to minimize by using hop bags now...

Help with my Partial Mash process!

Trying to dial in my process and could use some help, lot's a great info here, and it gets over-whelming at times! I am brewing a Double IPA tomorrow (Partial Mash)... I will be mashing 5lbs of grain, the rest extract. Full 8.5 gallon 90 minute boil, get 6 gallons into fermenter. I have...

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

I do not, but I plan on using bottled water on next brew, maybe some gypsum. I may have been over-sparging.

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

Thanks Ross....I am not in a club, but will certainly reach out to my local brewpub, and let the brewer sample.

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

MY non hoppys have pretty high IBUs, yes...But this isn't just bitterness, it's an off-flavor.

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

I have no issues with commercial hoppy beers...I love hops, and can detect the distinct aroma/flavors....this tastes like soap to me. It's not a yeast/fermentation issue....has to be water and/or bad hops. I need to go back and taste my non-hoppy beers to see if I can detect. Sent from my...

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

Thanks Ron....I also got the same flavor from the recipe below, which I entered in the AHA competition..It scored "good"....I wasn't crazy about it, as I got the same hop issue with this one as well. Brew Method: Partial Mash Style Name: Imperial IPA Boil Time: 90 min Batch Size: 6...

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

Here is my most recent brew.......OG was 1.048, FG 1.010. The hops taste like a soapy, muddled mess to me. Brew Method: Partial Mash Style Name: Kölsch Boil Time: 60 min Batch Size: 5.5 gallons (fermentor volume) Boil Size: 7 gallons Boil Gravity: 1.036 STATS: Original...

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

I am doing full boils...I have a keggle. I am store more hops in a chest freezer, some of the bags are opened (like only using half the package)....So that certainly could be an issue. I have used hops that were previously opened. Next time, I will only use sealed, unopened packs.

    Frustrated...What is my next move?

I've been brewing for about 3 years now with 20+ brews under my belt. I currently am doing partial mashes (up to 5lbs of grain), control my fermentation temps with a chest freezer/temp controller, always do starters. My last few brews have left me frustrated as: -I am getting very little...

Keep getting same hop aroma- Is it me?

So I am sitting here sampling a session IPA with kolsch yeast that's been in the bottle 10 days...Body, clarity are spot on, carbonation is almost there...but there is one thing that I have noticed on my last few hoppy beers: There doesn't seem to be any distinct aroma...It's certainly hoppy-...

Session IPA Recipe Help (Boat Beer??)

As stated, my OG was a bit high...I haven't played around with my efficiency, not sure how to calculate. I was shooting for 1.044/45, hit 1.048. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Session IPA Recipe Help (Boat Beer??)

I gave this another shot yesterday based on this http://beerstainedletter.blogspot.com/2011/07/carton-brewing-fires-up-kettle-in-test.html?m=1 and Carton's website....I used Warrior and NZ Hallertau, cause' that what I had in the freezer. OG was a tad higher that I wanted (1.048), but what the...

    "Big Mouth Bubbler" Review (w/photos)

So I am now the proud owner of both a 5 & 6.5 gallon "Big Mouth Bubbler", great idea and many seem to be wondering what took so long. I have used the 5 gallon and am now debating whether or not to use the 6.5 gallon tomorrow for a big IPA (1.080 target), which will need a blow-off. Random...

Chest Freezer & Temp Controller Setup Questions

So my first fermentation went great..... I now have a heating pad and an additional analog temp controller, to pair with my Johnson Digital. Current temp inside chamber is low 50's. I want to ferment at 67...

Priming sugar residue bottom of bottling bucket-

My beers typically have no issue carbing up, in fact, if anything some are over-carbed. I bottled a Pliny clone today, I took a guesstimate that I had 4.5 gallons in my carboy, which turned out to be dead on. Used carb calculator and used 3.3oz of priming sugar, added just enough water to...

Large mouth carboy from Northern Brewer

I'm just using the 5gal was secondary/dry-hopping now. I don't see the threading being a cleaning issue.
