    Question on Beersmith Calculations

Yeah thats what I was figuring, it was some setting i had set it was overcompensating for. I guess I cant complain though since my target sg was hit, but it was just puzzling the **** out of me, especially when i was about to do my first AG.

Hey all, Looking to get into all grain. Figured I was going to go to home depot and buy the parts for a 10g round cooler MLT. Also will be needing a boil kettle, i have been using a 22q aluminum kettle for my extract/partial mashes. was looking to get a burner and large boil kettle. I don't...

All of our beers taste nothing special..

I only have a few batches under my belt and haven't done any all grain yet, just extract and partial mashes but here's my non-technical input: I love drinking my homebrew and think it tastes great. But I think a lot of it is in the satisfaction of knowing that I was able to make it. I've...

Adding vanilla extract to bottling bucket?

I did some searching and couldn't find a definitive answer. I brewed up a pumpkin ale this week, and the recipe said to add some vanilla extract to the secondary fermenter. I do not have a secondary as this was my third batch. The recipe which i loosely followed stated to let it sit in...

Hey all, I got almost everything ready to brew my first partial mash recipe for tomorrow. Autumn Seasonal Beer Scary Balz Pumpkin Ale

may be a newb question here, but as my first attempt at a partial mash i was wondering a few things: what volume of water are we looking at here to use for the partial mash process and how much sparge water? and do these amounts really matter (as in being precise) in the final outcome of the...

    5 g carboys as secondaries

Thanks for the quick responses. I think imma pick one up since they are cheap and may as well. More for the ability to not have a lag in brews if I wanted to ferment longer rather than for the prototypical uses of a traditional secondary

    5 g carboys as secondaries

I just recently picked up brewing and I have a quick question. I have. 6.5 g carboy which runs about 65 bucks at my local store. I found a really good deal on some 5 g carboys for around 15-18 bucks. I was wondering if I could pick some up and use them as secondaries so I can clear up room in...

    First batch question

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies. I now assume the low og was due to a water heavy sample as I just lifted up the carboy and poured it into a glass to do my test
