getting mixed answers re: force carbonating

I just realised you are going to lube the gas side. So go for it. I just don't like using lube on the liquid sides. My preference.

As long as the O ring is intact, and not cracked or drying out. You should be able to go without the lube.

Teflon tape on the threads only. Don't tape the O ring or the contact area.

You can take this apart. Be careful not to loose the poppet. Also there is a hard to see O ring under that screw top that either stays inside the disconnect, or stays attached to the screw top. ( I have lost a couple of these already and are difficult to replace ). HD has standard O rings and...

I'm leaning toward a faulty regulator. Is there one you can borrow or would your LHBS loan you one to check against yours?

My First Brew Day and All Grain!

Agreed! Way to jump right in! Agreed. Can you sparge with more water? Like closer to 5 gal? Also, I would add the honey at flameout. My preference though. If you boil honey too long or too hot you risk killing the flavors and sticking/burning on the bottom of your kettle. Happy brew day! AJ

Everything looks alright to me. So I'll have to agree with Ozarks. Shut the tank off. Bleed the regulator and keg out. Turn the regulator all the way down to zero, then turn open the tank up full, and slowly raise your psi to the desired setting. If that doesn't work look at getting a new...

    Mr Cat

Welcome to the obsession my long lost cousin! (My grandmother was from Aberdeen) Fermentation temp control is going to a bit if a challenge in a caravan. I would suggest as the temps start to drop you might want to think of using a mini fridge with a heat belt connected to some sort of temp...

Can you post a pic of the regulator as it is, open and hooked up to the keg? Regardless of how much CO2 is in the beer, as long as the tank is fullish, the psi setting should not be dropping. That's the job of the regulator, to keep the pressure as set.

smoke oatmeal in the smoker for an oatmean stout?

Following with great interest. I have used smoked grains, including my own. One thing to keep in mind, low heat, plenty of smoke. I would hazard to guess you would shoot for no more than 200°F and smoke for around 2 hours. Be careful not to over toast. Good luck and post your outcome!

    Mold on tap area !!

Sorry for the late response. But no. Do not use bleach. Just use hot tap water then and give it a good clean with a lint less cloth. Then starsan it.

    cheap yellow >6%ABV recipe needed

I do the CO3C recipe all the time and usually add a twist or two to hone in on my palate. The last one I made I only added 8oz oats, and 4oz Crystal 10. Wife even likes it, and she doesn't like Cream Ales. I also did it as is, once and lager'd it. Came out great! A total lawnmower beer, carbed...

    First Big Beer, Advice?

Agreed. I'd actually leave the sugar out completely. Cane sugar depending on the source can leave a horrid after taste that takes forever to age out. Maybe oats for more body/thickness might also be a thought. Otherwise looks like a good try.

    Mold on tap area !!

Hot water and PBW wash. Then starsan spray it. You shouldn't need alot of pressure as not to force anything past the seal into the keg. After that I'd give it a light rinse and towel dry.

A better way to hook up a Beer Gun

10'+ liquid line at 12 psi with never an issue. I'm going to try this mod. That will save a me using an extra co2 tank. Edit. I should have stated, when I bottle I freeze the bottles and the gun with the line before I start.
