    Finished my keezer collar (finally)

After about a year and a half of procrastinating since I bought my chest freezer, I finally built up the nerve to build a collar and mount my taps. Here's a photo! It's a GE 7 cu ft freezer, with 1x6 poplar boards stained red mahogany and perlick faucets. I'm not that good with...

    Super high gravity...

I would guess that you'll probably have a proportionally higher FG than brewersfriend predicts and it won't be an issue. Do you have any ideas why your OG was so much higher than expected?

    Another Chill Haze Question...

I think it's more about the speed of the crash, but I don't know at what temp the cold break proteins form. From my experience, yeast flocculation is a pretty big driver of beer clarity so a cold crash in the fermenter for a week helps and the longer in the keg I keep my beers, the clearer they...

    Citra, my God citra

I agree with the comments for using Citra as a late hop. On my IPAs, I've stopped doing 60-90 minute additions and just starting at 30 minutes. I find I get more than enough bitterness and a ton of flavor and aroma. Citra is great for this type of hopping.

    another burst carb question

I usually keep it on 30 for 24-48 hours and then bleed the keg down to serving pressure. It's not fully carbed after the first few days but it's definitely drinkable and after 3-4 days it's good enough for my tastes! 3 days at 30 is probably too much in my experience.

    NYC 2010 Water Report

I usually add some gypsum or calcium chloride, total of 6 grams for about 10 gallons of brew water (depending on style for gypsum or cacl). I just recently started doing this and I'm impressed by the improvements it made. But I love the water here in BK... great for brewing.

    double IPA help.. opinions please

Agreed on using a hydrometer. I find my refractometer readings after correcting for alcohol aren't accurate. Pre-fermentation they're fine but after fermentation they end up understating the FG.

    Controlling Fermentation Temperature

I bought a mini fridge and put my bucket in there. I use a stc-1000 and disconnected the internal thermostat to control the temp. I'm only one batch in but it works perfectly so far. I live in NYC, so I understand the space concerns. A mini fridge fits nicely in the corner though you...

Finally, a clear beer... but why?

I do use whirfloc, but I have noticed that my beer has been very cloudy coming out of the mash (and post boil as well, despite what seems like a strong hot break). I cold crash my beers when fermentation is complete, but that doesn't clear it up. This one was crystal clear coming out of the...

Finally, a clear beer... but why?

Since I've gone all-grain, I've brewed five batches and all have been cloudy coming out of the mash & boil except for the last one, which I brewed yesterday. I've been reading a lot about water chemistry lately, so the only difference in my process for the last batch was I added about 55ppm of...

    BrewBoard - Arduino/Webpage control for e-brewery

Snccoulter, I would recommend a MEGA (because the UNO is really memory limited when working with Ethernet projects) and the Ethernet board. Also, get some LEDs, a few breadboards and jumper wires (or just one of the starter kits). I find you can learn stuff more easily when you have some...

    BrewBoard - Arduino/Webpage control for e-brewery

mysd, I haven't made any changes. I'm glad you liked the HTML side. Unfortunately, the apartment I moved into doesn't have the proper electricity setup for this system so I'm just brewing on my stove. Which works great, but isn't quite as technologically advanced (so not as fun). I'm not...

    Convoluted chiller won't chill

I own this one: http://www.nybrewsupply.com/beer-home-brewing-equipment/wort-chillers/deluxe-counterflow-wort-chiller.html Used it last weekend, worked great (I was getting it to pitching temp in 1 pass) though I had some problems with doing a gravity feed and had to use my pump instead...

    fermenting in mini fridge

What fridge did you buy? I'm looking for one with the same purpose in mind.

Über Compact Fermentation Monitor - Arduino Based

The Ethernet and sd libraries are huge. DNS alone saved me 2KB. I think I saw one that had cut it down about in half with full functionality called "tiny Ethernet" or something but it may just be easier to upgrade to the Mega. Either way, impressive optimization on your part. :mug:

Über Compact Fermentation Monitor - Arduino Based

This is really impressive. It has full sd/Ethernet library support? I had the same problem with my arduino program and had to edit out DNS support to get it to fit (web server/HTML control for ebrewing). I came in 200 bytes under the limit in the flash. How hard would this be to adapt for...

    BrewBoard - Arduino/Webpage control for e-brewery

I've been away from home brewing for the past two years while I've lived internationally, but I'm moving back to NYC this month so I'm starting to plan out my future system. I've wanted to build an electric system for a while since I'm an apartment dweller and it just seems better to me than...

    Thanks HBT!

Moving for work purposes. My company (shameless plug alert Gilt Groupe) has an affiliate in Japan so I'm heading out there for a year to help them out. Thanks for the link weirdboy... best news I've heard all day. Maybe I'll have to make room for my equipment after all.

    Thanks HBT!

As I sit here enjoying the fruits of my brewing labors (a pumpkin ale, just a bit late for Thanksgiving, but whatever it's fantastic), I thought I would make my first post a thank you to this community for helping me figure out this whole brewing thing. Since April, I've brewed 5 beers, and...
