Ale still fermenting during cold crash

Thanks - I'll use the corrective calculator. I think the confusion came in because I wasn't clear on my initial post that the brix came from the refractometer and the FG came from a hydrometer. Also the bubbling is probably oxygen coming out after the cold crash. Luckily the beer didn't...

Ale still fermenting during cold crash

So that's weird. I took distilled water to calibrate the refractometer and it was barely off - 1 brix or less off of being zero. What would make the brix read 9 when the FG is 1.012? Even if the temp of the sample was too high/too low I wouldn't think it would be off that much.

Ale still fermenting during cold crash

sorry the refractometer says 9 brix and the hydrometer says 1.012. I will adjust the refractometer - which I typically use just to know if fermentation is done. I always use the hydrometer for FG. Thanks for the replies!

Ale still fermenting during cold crash

Sorry - typo 1.012 was the gravity with the hydrometer

Ale still fermenting during cold crash

Brix was 9 using a hydrometer reading it was 1.02

Ale still fermenting during cold crash

Now that it's warmed up the brix is back to 9 and it's not bubbling anymore. Will keg today.

Ale still fermenting during cold crash

I have an IPA that fermented for 12 days at 68F. The brix stayed at 9 for a couple days so I started cold crashing. After 1 1/2 days I pulled it out to keg and it was bubbling. I loosened the air lock to take a sample and it was at 8 brix. After putting airlock back it's still bubbling every 30...

    Judge my first NEIPA recipe

I've done a batch with 1318 and I've now done a batch with US-04. Used the same recipe each time. The 1318 batch was by far better. Great aroma, juicy and very good. The US-04 batch had a good aroma but lacked the juiciness of the 1318 batch. Also on the finish I could detect a hint of...

    CO2 Location

Along the same lines, I'll be traveling this weekend with a 2 1/2 gallon keg in a regular cooler filled with ice. Would it hurt anything if I have a sodastream co2 in the cooler with the ice and keg?

Whats the best Stainless Steel growler?

I have a Miir stainless steel insulated growler. It's excellent at keeping beer fresh and cold. It has a swing top. The only thing is because the top of the growler is at a slant, it confuses people how to open it. If I did over I'd get one with a handle like the Stanley - easier for pouring.

    Judge my first NEIPA recipe

I have one fermenting now with London III. I think I'll try the US-04 next time

    Judge my first NEIPA recipe

Do you find this turns out as good as if you used London III or Burlington Ale yeast?

How's the aroma and flavor when you use US-04?

Czech Pilsner - Amarillo dry hop?

Going through the comments and deciding not to add the Amarillo to the pilsner - that's exactly what I was thinking of doing next - a blonde ale with amarillo :)

Czech Pilsner - Amarillo dry hop?

Thanks for the replies. Will probably leave as is since it's for a family get together. Maybe a hop tea to add to a glass or jug later to get an idea how it blends.

Czech Pilsner - Amarillo dry hop?

never. It's actually my first lager since I now have a chest freezer But I like to dabble and hoppy ales are my favorite. I don't mind if it doesn't taste like a classic pilsner but I don't want to ruin it.

Czech Pilsner - Amarillo dry hop?

I just made a 2.5 gallon batch of Czech Pilsner with Bohemian Pilsner Malt and some Carafoam using all Czech Saaz hop. I'm considering a small dry hop of Amarillo - maybe .25 - .5 oz. Thoughts on this? Would it blend nicely or could it ruin a good pilsner?

    Best option for non-kegged beer

I agree, it's the bottling process. I would boil corn sugar in water, let it cool a little. I have a mr beer plastic fermenter with a spigot - I'd pour the corn sugar/water mixture into the mr beer fermenter then using the spigot on my stainless steel fermenter I'd connect a hose and fill the...

    Best option for non-kegged beer

was trying to avoid bottle conditioning because I was getting an off-flavor on every brew. I don't get that with the keg. Seemed like oxidation. Before bottling/conditioning the beer would smell and taste great. During conditioning it would lose most of the fruit/flowery hop aroma/taste and...
