    Priming minikegs

Twistr, 3 weeks in the keg minimum. Would timing have any effect? Ster, so you never had a damaged keg when you primed with 2oz instead of 1? I've read that if minikegs get deformed from overcarbing then rust kills them in no time.

    Priming minikegs

Hi! I'll need to split my next batch into bottles and minikegs for a party. I've read that minikegs need only half of the priming sugar that's needed for bottles - is that right? Assuming I want to reach 2.4 vol CO2, then for bottles I'll need 2oz of table sugar, but for minikegs that...

Specialty grains / partial mash sediment

Thank you. I'll post another question about flameout here just to avoid creating a different thread: As I understand right at the end of the boil I should turn the heat off and stir in the DME. At the same time, In the last 15 minutes of the boil I need to dip in my immersion chiller and...

Thanks! Do you squeeze the bag after steeping?

Specialty grains / partial mash sediment

Hi! I have recently tried brewing using specialty grains and partial mash (BIAB), however, I ended up with a lot of sediment in my fermenters (up to ~3 litres for partial mash!). Can somebody please: a) confirm that for steeping specialty grains I just need to throw the bag into ~68C...

Please help with making a starter!

Thank you. I seem to have gotten 2 layers of yeast sediment. One consists of white flakes and one of darker regular-looking yeast slurry. For freezing yeast, is it ok to collect the white flakes or should I aim to get the dark slurry?

Please help with making a starter!

Thank you! So, just to confirm, the starter is ready to crash cool after approx 36 hours on the stir plate?

Please help with making a starter!

Hi! So, I've made myself a stir plate and got some good yeast. On Thurday night I mixed up some DME into 3 pints of water, pitched white labs kolsch yeasties and put the starter on the stir plate. Can somebody please let me know how long to wait until the starter is ready? I am...

DIY Small HDPE keg - tap problems

ACBrewer - yes, I want to keep the whole thing simple so its easy to sanitise. Ajm163 - I know of people who used regular plastic jerry cans to condition beer. I'll be really surprised if a UN-approved hazmat container won't take the same pressure, but want to test it in a controlled...

DIY Small HDPE keg - tap problems

Hi! I've been recently trying to make a diy keg. The keg has got to be small as I don't have much space in the fridge, so I got myself one of these 6L containers: http://www.curtec.com/en/products/drums/wide-neck-drums/detail/wide-neck-drums-6-litres Installed a standard motorcycle valve...

    Priming calculator questions

Thanks guys! What pressure (in BAR or PSI) should a pressure barrel be able to withstand? I'm looking at small kegging options and want to test a few diy set-ups.

    Priming calculator questions

Thanks guys! I won't risk carbing over 3 volumes in a bottle but I like my beer well cabonated, so 2.5-2.8 would probably be my usual CO2 amount. How do volumes of CO2 relate to BAR? I want to pressure-test a mini-kegging system but don't know how much air to pump into the test keg.

    Priming calculator questions

Hi! Can somebody please clarify a few things about the priming calculator here: http://www.tastybrew.com/calculators/priming.html 1) Fermentation Temp: is this temp at bottling or average temp of fermentation? 2) Volume of beer: Is this in US or UK gallons? Thank you!

    First time freezing yeast.

Once again thanks for help! Just waiting for all parts of my diy stir plate to arrive.

    kolsch yeast temperature

Hi! I've been looking at kolsch yeast and according to wyeast's description, it ferments well at 13-21C. Does this refer to air temp or wort temp (i.e. air temp of <17C)? I can get air temp of 20-22C for my ale yeasties (which seems to work well) but for <17C I'll have to wait until winter...

    Improving kit stout? Oak? Coffee?

Hi! I've just mixed up my last kit beer which is a Munton's export stout. I'm tempted to "dry-hop" it with oak chips or ground coffee beans. Has anyone tried it and got good results? Thanks!

    newbie stir plate questions

Thanks for the info! Am I correct to assume that having a 500mA power source will be absolutely fine for a 450mA fan?
