Hi!

So, I've made myself a stir plate and got some good yeast.

On Thurday night I mixed up some DME into 3 pints of water, pitched white labs kolsch yeasties and put the starter on the stir plate.

Can somebody please let me know how long to wait until the starter is ready?
I am planning to freeze some of the yeast before pitching the starter into wort.

Thank you very much!

Thank you!

So, just to confirm, the starter is ready to crash cool after approx 36 hours on the stir plate?

I just start mine 18-24 Hours before I'm going to pitch and dump the whole starter. If your gonna crash it, that sounds about right.

Thank you.

I seem to have gotten 2 layers of yeast sediment. One consists of white flakes and one of darker regular-looking yeast slurry.

For freezing yeast, is it ok to collect the white flakes or should I aim to get the dark slurry?
