    Switching to all-grain...stove vs outdoor?

You could tag team it with your stove + an immersion heater or forego the stove burner all together. I've got a 3kw immersion heater that heats all the water/wort needed for a double batch. Having a thermal wrap helps out immensely.

Used Mr. Beer to catch the bug now I want to move on.

I agree with what everyone said about pots and sizing. Buy now with double-batch capability in mind. 30 qt satisfies BIAB in terms of both mash vessel and boil kettle (if you put some 'sparge water' to the side.). If you're nervous about boil overs, I'd recommend some Fermcap. I'd...

Going Chrome OS - Abandoning Windows 8 and the PC

I made the switch in 2008 when I got lockout out of my system via BSOD. I vowed to never return to Windows. I had a netbook with Chrome but it felt like a straightjacket. There was something about it that felt stifling. I've been a Ubuntu Linux user since 2008. I've tried a few...

    Kegging and Conditioning question

You could also transfer to a sanitized keg and set the lid with 30psi. That way your beer would be hidden from light and be nearly 'ready to go' with as little as 15 minute lead-up (carbonation via agitation)...

    Wanting to start all grain

Also, using a consistent grain/water ratio will allow you to more accurately nail your desired mash temperature. To me, that's the #1 thing about the mash.

    Grain Mills - Your opinion?

I had a barley crusher that sharted out on me pretty quickly. While BC eventually replaced several parts on my mill, they proved slow and incompetent. I now have 2 Monster Mills; 1 three roller mill, 1 two roller mill. Both are rock stars. If I had it to do over, I'd get a 2 inch, 2...

Set up questions for all grain

You'll be fine with a 7.5G pot. Even in the case of a 90 minute boil, you'd be on par to lose roughly 1.5G to evaporation. If you are really worried, use some fermcap in the boil. Even on my insane rocket stove, I've never had a boil over with fermcap (though it was making some crazy...

    Why do you home brew?

Good imported beer is cost prohibitive (about 30 dollars a six pack) in Korea so I make my own. I also fall under the 'like to tinker' umbrella. Once you start putting down a pipeline and kegging, there's damn near something to do daily involving beer. Some find it annoying, but I love the...

    ghetto brew setups?...

I'm just getting my first Udemy course off the ground featuring this very thing. In the course, I cover my ghetto-ish Montana brewing rig as well as my super ghetto, vertical Korean rig. Have a look ... https://www.udemy.com/i-brew-u-brew-small-spaces-minimal-gear-lotsa-beer/?couponCode=First30

Can I salvage old beer by making a sour?

I just 'revisited' a 4.5% wheat beer that was in my crawl space for over a year. Much is made of this 'drink wheats fresh' thing but it was just as good as I remember it at one month. Sent from my iPod touch using Home Brew

Can I clip a rhizome from my 3 year old hop plant?

The thread says it all. I want to plants some other hops plants on other parts of my property. Can I cut a bit from my existing plant and replant it elsewhere? Any tips?

Roeselare yeast. Reusing slurry, no activity

Hey there, I don't see any visible activity on a second batch made on '13 Roeselare slurry. I made the '13 batch a day before I left for overseas so I don't know about how it looks early on. Is it quite slow to take off?

    Belguim; most accessible beers?

Howdy, I have an ESL student that's doing a quick 2 week trip to Belgium. She said she likes beer so I said that her homework would be to try three beers and review them (in English, of course). She doesn't have a lot of time, and since her trip isn't beer centric (gasp), I'd like to make...
