Need some expert DIYer advice on fridge/fermentation

Just a thought. I have left the original temperature controll and installed a temperature controller to turn on/off the supply power. This means I can control the cooling rate (by the minimum temperature). I can slowly chill the fermenter slowly over a few days, or crank it if I need to.

    Triple Fermentation super low FG

What specialty grains did you use? Some tend to have unfermentables and will leave you with some residual sweetness. How much sugar? All fermentable = drier. What was your mash temp? Higher temp less fermentable. Lower more fermentable.

    Insane 5L starter?

Can't wait to crank it up. The stir bar I bought is 28mm, the only one this shop had. Is that big enough for this 5L flask?

    Insane 5L starter?

Cool. Thanks all for your help. The flask was actually reasonably cheap $40 AU. I have the bits to make a stir plate now too, also cheap. I'll give it a go. I want to make a Pliny the elder clone from NHC recipes next.

    Insane 5L starter?

Thanks. I heard Jamil Z. saying up to 6L was ok. But that just sounds crazy.

    Excited Yeast!

Wow crazy. My airlock would not cope and neither would my wife, with the mess.

    Insane 5L starter?

I have been reading and listening to podcasts regarding yeast starters. I want to do a few big beers and was recommended a 5L erlenmyer flask. This thing is huge!!! Much bigger than I ha imagined. Ignoring the process, do you actually put one vial into 5L of wort to make a 5L starter?

    Temp Correction Formula for Hydrometer

Thanks for the formula Guido. Here is the same formula adjusted for temperate in Celsius: =A2*((1.00130346-0.000134722124*((B2* 9/5)+32)+0.00000204052596*((B2* 9/5)+32)^2-0.00000000232820948*((B2* 9/5)+32)^3)/(1.00130346-0.000134722124*((C2* 9/5)+32)+0.00000204052596*((C2*...

    Do bees love beer?

Boomer, Thanks for your reply. My wife will have ban me from brewing another day (nah she's good, even helps with it). Beer, Attached is the picture of last weekends amber ale that actually didn't start all of this commotion. I'm sorry for blaming you for the bees, beer.

    Do bees love beer?

I suppose it is spring here at the moment. I couldn't imagine trying to make a mead. Yes they are honey bees. We called the local council and had a bee keeper come to relocate them. The little guys are now happy at his farm. Our chickens can now happily finish off eating my spent grains...

    Do bees love beer?

Hi. I overheard someone saying bees drop around and say hello when they brewing. Is he off with the fairies, or are bees attracted by the sugar odours from brewing? On the weekend I did my first all grain batch. Afterwards I put the grains into the compost heap. A few days after that found a...

    BIAB. Say no to cotton.

Hi. Just want to add cement to the reason that you don't use cotton for your BIAB bag. If logic is correct. On the weekend I did my first all grain brew with a cotton BIAB bag. When the bag got wet it would not let water through. This meant there was a layer of water that stayed outside if...

Copper gas pipe for wort chiller

Hi, I have more then enough decommissioned 3/4" copper gas pipe under the house. I'd like to use it to make an immersion wort chiller as buying 1/2" is expensive at the moment. I have two questions: 1. Is it safe to use for wort chilling? 2. Will it bend or split with a spring form pipe...
