Sounds interesting, banana beer? Let us know how it comes out

    Dry Hopping?

Yep, standard practice to pop the lid and drop the hops in. It's ok to pop the lid because you kinda have to do that in order to get the hops in there :D Doesn't affect fermentation, though you may get a little bit of bubbles from co2 off-gassing. I never heard of anyone getting oxidation...

    Scotish Export

Congrats man haha. You got some serious willpower if it was that good of a beer and you still have some stored after months :D

    What's a good satisfying 3.2 to 4% beer?

Hahaha I can relate to that. Went vegan almost 2 years ago. Don't miss meat, miss dairy sometimes. I wouldn't know what it's like to go without beer, if I had to give that up somebody shoot me. To the OP, I second this, what you eat is what makes you gain / lose weight. A lot of people...

gentle tube insertion with lube does help. wait what are we talking about here? lmao

    IPA 's Darkening with Age

Good info! Glad I came across this, as I was recently wondering what would work better between cold crashing and putting a filter / rubber band over my siphon when transferring to a bucket. I'm guessing the suck back caused by cold crashing causes the oxidation?

Creative wort chiller ideas (trying to save on ice)

I brew in an apartment also, and the tap water here is pretty warm (probably mid to high 70's). What I do is cool the wort with the wort chiller / tap water for about 25 mins, it should take the temps down to the high-mid 80s. From there I give it the ice bath in the sink, using 3 frozen gallon...

    Carbonation after 1 week?!?!

Really depends what the conditioning temp is. Where I live it's in the high 70's - low 80's room temp, so I get fully carbed bottles in a week. Though I get the best results if they're in the fridge for at least 3-4 more days before drinking em. If you live in a cooler place though, it could...

    Need bottles

haven't found bombers at a price that I liked, but if you need non-empty quality 12oz bottles for cheap, I'd say Costco. They sell cases of Lagunitas IPA there for a really good price ($26 in Hawaii, probably little lower where you're at)

    lessons learned after 10 batches

I think I got another thing to add: If you're making a pipeline, always make sure you have a lighter beer, unless you have a huge tolerance lol. I'm stuck with 3 batches of beer that are all in the high 6's-high 7% range and it's fine if I'm having a couple at home. However, when hanging out...

    First BIAB Problems

I had a similar problem myself, I got about a 58% efficiency on my first brew. Did you buy the grains crushed, or crushed at the LHBS? First run, I did a single crush at the LHBS. I finally got to 70-75% efficiency by: - Double crush (Still at the LHBS) - Mash for 90 minutes instead of 60. If...

    First Brew Success

Bottles from Deschutes and Ballast Point work well also. I think they're the same exact bottles you get from most kits or LHBS. I had a 12 pack of bottles that came with a Northern Brewer kit, and also looking at the empty bottles sold by my LHBS, I can't tell them apart. Except for the Ballast...

    Getting my "stuff" together

I've heard a false bottom is good to protect the bag from getting scorched, since you're using propane that's probably a good idea. In my experience though if your grains / water is near filled to the top, the temp is pretty constant. I do 90 min mashes on stove top with no insulation at all...

    lessons learned after 10 batches

I've been using all refractometer since about 4 batches ago (On 9 now). Brewing 2.5 gallon batches, it's painful to use 4oz for a hydro sample lol. But in any case, before I started using it exclusively I compared readings and I've been getting the same results. The biggest ah-ha moment for me...

Looking for source of knowledge for basics

I learned everything by reading this forum and watching youtube vids lol. First batch was an extract kit, 2nd batch I basically followed the process on the BIAB forum (sticky at the top). Been pretty much doing it that way ever since, of course with some modifications due to trial & error, and...
