Hop - Dog tags (name tags)

Anyone know where I can get the thin aluminum(?) dog tag like plant name tags for... well just about any plant, but hops in this case. They are thin and you indent the name rather than actually lay down ink or dye. I got some with hops from Australia and would like some more. Any info or leads?

    ASBC Member? Iodine Rxn

OK will try that with a coverslip. But with just a plate, I haven't been successful in reducing the darkness of the wort from interferring with my ability to eyeball rxn color. Curiousity about the MOA Beer Method #7B, for dark beers, (and whatever the MOA might say about dark worts in the...

Mabrungard, In my case, knowing if all the starch has converted is indeed the very question I want to answer... not what types of sugars it (they?) have been converted to. (Well that would be even better I guess, but for now I just want to know there is nothing more to be gained by extending the...

Easy Stove-Top Pasteurizing - With Pics

One new point on safety... some here have reported exploding bottles... I have been spared this fate. However, I have recently experienced a bottle cap failure... the cap lost it's shape, shot off the bottle and allowed about 65~75% of the contents to escape... coating the surrounding area...

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of how the starch-iodone rxn can be used with dark/black worts? Can they be decolorized, (or diluted) and still give accurate results ?

    Degassing? When? Why?

Ok Thanks. So would it pretty much be true that degassing is not a common commercial / traditional practice ? Having made a few wines from scratch (not kits) then making one from a kit with degassing instructions, I felt some resistance/uncertainity to the practice. Thanks for the tip about...

    Degassing? When? Why?

The concept seems strange to me... I usually just age it in bulk before bottling and haven't noticed any carbonation in the bottled wine. Is there something I am overlooking, or is all the drilling/degassing I see people doing just so they can get the wine in the bottle quicker?

    Temperature tolerance of auto siphon...

As I expected, not heat stable enough! I had been wanting a stainless version to test out a new idea i had, and so the kickstarter was happy info... but sadly not yet to be had. Still, nice to see one comming to to the market, but a design that one could make one's self would really be...

    Wine in Beer Bottles...

Yes, I think you are correct! However, I have my own pet favorite bottles which I keep an eye on their specs; your comment about weight made me curious; how much do the two types of PU (sorry!couldn't resist) weigh?

    Wine in Beer Bottles...

I don't have enough wine bottles to bottle all of this years harvest; How bad would it be to bottle the excess in extra beer bottles? Comments?

    Best Hops for Malty Beers?

I see Magnum popping up here frequently... I thought Magnum was a rather neutral hop that did not provide much aroma/flavor and was primarily a clean bittering hop. Is this why it is suggested? If so, then that might be a different issue (?) ; that of a lack of a bittering clash, rather than a...

    Best Hops for Malty Beers?

Thanks everyone for your input. Your ideas are hepfull. I can't recall where I heard this, several times actually, but it was in regards very malty beer and certain hops that simply did not go well. Many of the comments here so far pointed to those that might not overpower the malty...

    Japan Hops Trading -

It is still too early to do anything, but I have lots of buds on what was planted last year. It is normal for first year plants not to produce many cones if any. I do not have any EKG and might be interested. What do you want to grow?

    Home brewing in Japan

@deadwolfbones, I used to make Hot Kinako (think Hot Chocolate) and it made a thick, gummy drink... like drinking a thin oatmeal. It was a long time ago, but as I recall, it seems that the kinako swells up and I would think it might clog your sparge efforts... I was using quite a bit however...

    Best Hops for Malty Beers?

I've read that hoppy and malty don't match well. Are there hops that might (or do) match well with very malty beers? What are the best combinations? What are the worst?
