Using Root beer bottles from microbrew

I just received a case of empty root beer bottles from a friend, I have read a few things about them holding the smell, I am more worried about bottle bombs. They are the short stubby bottles from a microbrew, looks like the same bottles they use for their beer. Has anyone had trouble using root...

Simplified Wheat recipe for a first timer.

Upper 60s will work fine. FYI: With the yeast you got, it will make an clean refreshing American wheat, not a German wheat with clove, banana, and ester flavors. Just zest about an ounce or two of orange/lemon zest. Add it in the last 5 - 10 minutes of the boil or you can soak it in vodka for...

    Chemical Taste in Blonde Ale

No I dont filter my water at all, previous beers have tasted fine. Anyway after 2 weeks, this beer taste much better, I am guessing if I let it cold crash for more then 24 hours it would help mellow out the taste. Now its time to HAHB

WLP568 off flavors for to low of temp?

Just wanted to post back in-case anyone else referenced this post. Fermented for ~17 days @ 64 Fermented for 2 days @ 70 (I am sure this didn't do anything) I tried it last night, tasted really good with no off flavors. I am guessing the Belgian yeast took over if the saison works at...

    Chemical Taste in Blonde Ale

Nothing more then standard tap water. I have made a Mr. Beer Blonde ale before, and it didn't have this kind of taste.

    Chemical Taste in Blonde Ale

It taste like a cleaning chemical, like lemon pine-sol. I have read a few post about a band-aid flavor, but I dont think its that. Anyway I am going to wait at least two weeks before I try again.

    Chemical Taste in Blonde Ale

It could have been under pitched, I used US-05, it was half a pack left over from a previous brew, I never measured so I may have used to much the first brew.

    Chemical Taste in Blonde Ale

Funny things you've overheard about beer

About a year and half ago, I was in a very small town in South Dakota. Just a little bar, I didnt expect them to have much for beer, so I asked the waitress, whats the darkest beer you have, she replied back Budweiser. I cringed a little, then she replied, oh we have Fat Tire, it was a moment of...

    Yeast "Chunks"

I just had some craft beer with that problem, but I think it was because the bottles were shaken up at an angle. I thought I did a poor job pouring the beer, but I was very cautious on the second bottle, and still had the same issue, maybe I should of waited a week before drinking for the yeast...
