    airlock changeout and reverse siphoning

When I press on the carboy (plastic) I usually get it to belch a bubble or two. With this scenario I can press hard on it and the water in the air lock doesn't even move. Should I just call it good and bottle, then try and figure out what is up?

Will it be ok to keep taking the air lock off? Dont I introduce oxygen when I do this?

    Og not on the mark

My ipa called for an og of 1.062. When tested mine came out to 1.052. I think I added too much fill water after boil. Will this make for a nasty beer? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    airlock changeout and reverse siphoning

I was letting a batch of Oatmeal Stout set. The batch had been done fermenting for about a week and I had blow off tubes on them. I need the tubes for another batch I was cooking, so i took them off and put normal air locks on them. The airlocks are the S type ones and the sanitized water is...

    Steeping temp

My OG was less than what I wanted to start with. It called for 1.061-1.065. I was at 1.052. Dont know if this had anything to do with it or if I maybe added too much water in the end.

    Steeping temp

I am working on a Brewers best ipa and my steeping temp got to 180 for about 7-10 minutes. Is this a big deal since it went over the advertised 165? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    water bottle vs better bottle?

I use 5 gal. Aqua Spring bottles. They have a triangle on the bottom with a 1 in it. Under the triangle it has PETE. Also on the bottom it says Aquapet. These have a handle and so far have worked fine for me. At a cost of "free" I will likely keep using these for some time.

    Bottle preparation

For bottling I usually rinse the previously used bottles out and try to make sure there is no funk in the bottom. Then I rinse in a "one step" sanitizer solution for a few minutes. After this, I bottle. Is this a good practice? My bottles always seem to have a white film on them from the...

    Blow off tube question

I'm doing my second batch of beer (a pale ale) and used a blow off tube just in case. Well it was definately needed. My question is, is all of the krausen going into the small jug taking away from anything? It smells strong like hops. I didnt know if the krausen is an important aid in the taste.
