    Upgrading a DIY immersion chiller

I modified my IC after my first batch to improve my chilling time. The T's ensure that my coil is halfway in my wort and it gets easy to rock from side to side to accelerate chilling. 10-15 min is what it takes with the not so warm water here in Canada. Cheers!

    Canadian website

+1 for ontariobeerkegs.com I placed several orders and will order again from them. They ship fast and products are good. I believe you could use the code "courtesy" to get a 5% discount (check there a thread about this).

    Plastic vs Stainless Mash Tun

I started with a cooler but the liner started bubbling recently so I just bought an aluminum kettle (40 qt, 52$ lid incl on amazon) and will reuse my copper manifold in it. I may use a moving blanket to insulate, and if needed, will direct fire it to keep my temp to where I want it. Have fun!

Cleaning a 1 in ID blowoff tube

Brushes in vinyl tubes could result in scratches?

Cleaning a 1 in ID blowoff tube

Then I pulled it a few times in either ways and sprayed sanitizer in there. I guess that's the best I can do!!! Any other ideas?

Cleaning a 1 in ID blowoff tube

After the 1st use of my blowoff tube, I let it soaked in warm soapy water for a day, the rinsed again with warm water then hanged to dry. Once dry, it was stained like &$-&$. I didn't want to use a brush in there so I figured a way to use a small piece of fabric (soaked in sanitizer), a fishing...

    Cooler Mash Tun Thermomoter

I use a floating thermometer bought at my LHBS. It is ~12 in long so it measures right in my grain bed. I killed two electronic probes in there since they aren't meant to be immersed. Learned it the hard way!

    Infection risk during wort cool-down

In N-E Canada, warm water is definitely not an issue, even during summer! There should be at least one advantage for being up North ;-)

    Infection risk during wort cool-down

I use aluminum foil (previously sprayed with disinfectant) to cover the top of my BK while the coil is in there. 30 min, really? Did you try oscillating the coil from side to side while cooling? It's much faster with a bit of movement.

Very fine dust-like particles clinging to the inside of the beer bottle

Here is a pic, it's kind of hard to get a nice shoot at this. I made a short video that makes it easier to see. How could I post a video on HBT?

Very fine dust-like particles clinging to the inside of the beer bottle

In my case, it's not hanging to the wall, but floating near the wall. By rotating slowly the bottle, I see the particles floating. Ths, the static thing makes sense to what I see.

Very fine dust-like particles clinging to the inside of the beer bottle

It's funny how we sometime think that we go through something alone.... I bottle a belgian wheat beer last week and today I noticed that dust like particles were hanging on the side of my bottles. The static thing makes me realized that last night, while mashing, I noticed that my freshly ground...

    Modified 3.5-cu ft freezer

Kind of, I cut an extension cord and inserted the controller between the male/female plugs.

    Modified 3.5-cu ft freezer

I just bought a new 21 cu-ft freezer to be used as a freezer (My wife won't let me using it as a fermentation room :-) ). I had our old 3.5 cu-ft freezer that I could use, however, a 6-gal carboy wouldn't fit. I simply cut a hole in the lid and screwed an old insulated igloo style bottle and voila!!

I never did but by reading the blog, I think I will start once I'm done with the grains I have! Thanks for the link!
