    Plastic boxes for bottle storage!

I do the same with 6 packs stored in plastic storage containers. Easy, and it keeps them clean.

    First brew fermentation temp

I would definitely recommend a warmer temp for a hefeweizen. The warmer temps will bring out the flavors that make it so good. If not using liquid yeast, I would also recommend rehydrating your yeast. Hope this helps and good luck!

    Problems with plastic bucket fermenter?

Thanks for all your help guys. FWIW, my main concern was that I have always seen bubbling in my first 4 batches but none on this. My bucket is from a Midwest starter kit, and does not have a gasket. I know I shouldn't be relying on the bubbles and don't necessarily have to have a leak-proof...

    Thanks for confirming guys!

    Problems with plastic bucket fermenter?

I've thought about those too, just haven't done enough research to see how they compare to glass. Anything that's not going to shatter when I drop it is a huge plus, not to mention a lot lighter.

Plastic Bucket leaking? Is this Krausen?

Thanks! Can't wait to dry hop in a few weeks!

    Problems with plastic bucket fermenter?

Glad to hear I'm not the only worry wort here. I think it might be time to invest in a 6 gal glass carboy for my next brew!

Plastic Bucket leaking? Is this Krausen?

So I brewed an American Pale Ale on Saturday, and have not seen a single bubble in my airlock. I used a dry yeast this time - Danstar BRY 97. I read in here that this yeast has a "slow start time" but at 72 hours I was really getting worried. I even thought there might be a problem with my...

Danstar BRY-97 American West Coast Yeast: A Review

I also just used this yeast on an American Ale. I pitched it (rehydrated) more than 2 days ago and STILL have seen no activity. Fermenter is sitting cozy around 68 degrees. Hoping to see something soon...

Northern Brewer Dead Ringer IPA Gravity Help

Hey just wanted to give an update on this - I think I figured out why my OG was so high... Now that the krausen has fully dropped I could see that indeed my volume was off. It was at roughly 4.3 gal rather than 5. I'm chalking this one up to a newbie error, as I remember spilling a bit of wort...

Northern Brewer Dead Ringer IPA Gravity Help

Thanks for your comments! I aerated the way I typically do by pouring the wort into approx 2 gal of boiled (cooled) water, then back in forth for a few minutes between buckets. Yes it was an extract kit. Didn't add anything else to it.

Northern Brewer Dead Ringer IPA Gravity Help

Hi all, I got a few new gadgets for Christmas and I just finished my first brew of the new year. I used the Dead Ringer IPA kit from NB. Everything seems great so far except for my OG. The kit says OG should be around 1.064. My reading before I pitched the yeast was 1.086... Much higher than...

    Help with Ale recipe

Hi Wavery, I'm no expert on recipes so I'll leave that suggestion for another reader. As far as adding the extract during the boil, it's ALWAYS good practice to take your wort off of the burner and stir in the extract to make sure it doesn't scald on the bottom.

    Bavarian Hefeweizen ready to bottle?

It fermented around 63-64 degrees F, which I've read is on the lower end for what this beer should be at. How will this affect the FG?

    Bavarian Hefeweizen ready to bottle?

I was hoping for somewhere around 1.010 - 1.012. I might let it sit for a few more days and take one more reading.

    Bavarian Hefeweizen ready to bottle?

Hi all, Relatively new home brewer here, doing my 3rd brew which is the Bavarian Hefeweizen kit from northern brewer. Everything seems to be going well (I think) and now I'm debating on whether my beer is ready to bottle. It has been fermenting for 13 days, and the SG is down to 1.020 for the...

Brewer's Best Kolsch in secondary. What next?

Thanks. If I like it I think I'll try another with the wyeast kolsch yeast you suggested.

Brewer's Best Kolsch in secondary. What next?

Thanks. It was definitely lighter in the hose, but still a bit darker than most kölschs that I have seen. I used the dry yeast that came with the kit (because I couldn't find a better liquid yeast at the time). It was Nottingham but I don't remember which specifically. Since I've already moved...

Brewer's Best Kolsch in secondary. What next?

Hi all, I'm in the midst of my second brew and could use a little guidance. After fermentation (which seemed to be wrapped up after 3 or 4 days) I transferred my wort to a secondary 5 gal glass carboy. Haven't seen any action, and assume that this is normal for a secondary. I'm hoping it will...
