While come hops, what a waste

That's the main reason I switched to pellet hops. I wasn't getting the flavor/aroma from late additions or from dry hopping with whole cones. I experimented and made the same beer with the same weight in pellets that I had previously made with whole cone and the difference was night and day in...

    quick question

Fire it up but make sure you are stirring/recirculating so there is no scorching of the grain. I do that every batch to keep the temp in the target range. Sparging as well to keep at mash out temp and I've never had an issue with tannins.

Aphids in my hops.. Aphids in my beer?

I had a couple green worms floating around in the boil after adding my wet hop additions on my latest pale ale. So I vote throw those suckers in!

Finally, Fermentation chamber build. Almost completed

Nice job! I like the idea of hiding the fridge and the vent for air circulation around the 'hot side' of the fridge.

    Homebrew facepalms

Started two small fires in my kitchen. The first was the hoses on my IC, that smelled great. Second was a pile of grain I spilled by the burner doughing in caught fire, smelled like burnt toast but better than the burnt plastic. Typing this made me realize it would be a good idea to buy myself a...

    First IPA Centennial/Cascade/Citra input please!

I suggest take off an oz on the 10 or 20 min addition and add it to the flame out addition. Also tone down the caramunich, that seems like a ton of crystal that would be overly sweet. I like to shoot for 4-7% crystal in my IPA's. Other than that the hop schedule sounds solid.

    Blichmann Burner efficency

I don't have anything to compare it to since I've only had the Blichmann burner but it seems pretty darn efficient to me. I only use it for the boil and I get 10 brews, give or take, out of a 5 gallon tank. So with you using it for the mash, sparge, and boil that sounds about right.

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

Found a major pest in one of my hop boxes. Any ideas how to get rid of it?

Do I need more height for a late first year?

Plenty of room to grow, they will have horizontal room if they reach the railing so that should be fine. I was at 10' last year with my 1st year hops and they barely made it to the top of the post. This year I'm putting an extension up. Does that spot get enough direct sun?

Trench for irrigation And finally in the ground! I know were a little late and the rhizomes were in the fridge for almost 2 weeks but at least they are in the ground. Hopefully we won't lose too many. 5 plants each of 5 varieties. 100' hop row with room to grow! And in the...

That is close spacing but I like the wall idea. How many plants and what varieties?
