    Water condition

I have a question regarding water and all grain brewing. I haven't started all grain yet but do plan to soon. My tap water (I would prefer to use that) is hard. That being said what exactly determines what makes water good or bad for brewing ? Also what fixes the problem if there is one ? Any...

Where to get ingredients outside nyc ?

I live north of NYC, Putnam county to be exact. Anyone know of good supply place in Westchester, Putnam or Fairfield co. (In CT) that has EVERYTHING I might need for partial mash at a good price. ??

    Fermenting concern

Thanks for all the help but it was all a false alarm. I took a gravity reading before I pitched more yeast and it turns out that it did ferment after all.

    Partial mash recipies

Does anyone know where I can find partial mash recipes ? I've done a few extracts at this point and I think I want to begin to get up the nerve to do a partial. Problem is while there are a ton of web sites with all grain recipes there are not any partials. Any thoughts ??

    Fermenting concern

Ok so I'll pitch some more yeast and see if that works. Do I need to re aerate before I pitch again ?

    Not fermenting !!!

No krausen either. I've checked. I have not yet checked the gravity but I really don't think I missed the fermenting. I don't think it ever occurred.

    Fermenting concern

No krausen, and it didn't bubble once in the airlock. I didn't take a reading but I'm pretty sure I don't need too. I think I can safely say it hasn't fermented yet.

    Not fermenting !!!

I brewed a nut brown and so far no fermentation. Ok so I have moved the pail all around my house and finally found (I think) a good place that hovers in the mid 60's. Now how long do I wait until I re pitch ? Is this all for nothing ? Has it been too long since my brew date (1/21) ? Do I have to...

    Fermenting concern

I brewed a batch of northern brewer nut brown 3 days ago. I have it in a plastic fermentation bucket in my closet. The closet is a steady 72 degrees and no fermentation yet. Should I be concerned? Should I move it to a cooler location ? How cool should I go ? My basement is an average at mid...

Priming sugar HELP !!!! Part 2

    Priming sugar HELP !!!!!!!

Ok here it is. I'm somewhat new to brewing (4 batches). I've always used the priming sugar that came with my extract kit. This time they were out of stock. Now I need to determine how much and what to use on my own and I'm not experienced enough yet. I've referenced the calculators but they can...

    Priming sugar question

If I add to the fermenter won't that "water down" the finished product ??

    Priming sugar question

I just sampled a batch of northern brewer caribou slobber and noticed that its quite a bit more carbonated than my previous batches of other styles. I used the priming sugar that came with the extract kit. Anyone have any idea why this would be. My concern is that because of sediment yeast cake...

    Wort chilling question

I am wondering if I have a wort chiller (and I do) is that in itself sufficient for chilling my wort without the ice bath or do I need to do both ?

    Fermintation temps

Ok so I now have a few brews under my belt and I must say so far so good. Here is my question. Until now I've been keeping the fermentation vessel in my basement while fermenting, problem is now that its colder (I'm in a northern burb of NYC) on average it's only 60 degrees in my basement. Is...

    Steel or plastic spoon

I was just wondering if anyone had a recommendation as to what type of stirring spoon to go with. Plastic is cheaper and comes in a longer length but stainless seems like it would last longer. Any suggestions ??

    kegconnection.com ??

Good advice from all. I ordered 2 pin locks for 29 bucks a piece. Plus a new set of o rings and release valve included. That with 7 and change flat rate shipping there isn't a better offer out there. Looking forward to not always having to bottle !!!!
