Flying Dog article and Raging Bitch IPA...

Pretty good brewery, and why shouldn't it be - it started in Colorado... As a Marylander, it's pretty exciting seeing a company close to home do this well. I saw on BeerAdvocate the other day that FD was in the top 50 for craft beer sales in the US last year. Pretty cool considering some of...

    Dry hopping kegged beer

To the OP: You could also build a randall. Northern Brewer sells a kit to make one that basically just uses a filter as the main part, plus some other needed accessories. This should work just fine, but would cost some $. To Edcculus: For your idea, couldn't you just use a stainless steel...

    Belgian Strong yeast and CO2

Yeah, I understood that part. Just didn't know if the CO2 coming out of the solution would contribute to over-carbonation (possible bombs). Thanks.

    Belgian Strong yeast and CO2

Brewed an offshoot of Mad Elf last December with Wyeast's Belgian strong yeast (don't feel like looking up the #). Well after months of "fermentation" I read somewhere that this yeast will continue to release CO2 long after it is finished fermenting. Well after a few gravity readings, I...

    That's what I figured. Thanks!

    Hops left out of freezer

I bought a pound of hops last fall and have been keeping them in my freezer. I accidentally left them out of the freezer the other day and didn't notice till about 24 hours later. What do you think, toss them or are they still ok? Not that it makes a difference but they are cascades and I...

    Stupid Decision, Need ideas.

Sorry, didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch... I don't have any way to regulate temp so that it stays around 58, so the fruitiness wouldn't be great for what I wanted to go for. But it should be fine for an IPA. I guess that helps make my mind up...

    Stupid Decision, Need ideas.

Yeah, I'm an idiot today (Sorry, wife and I just had a kid on Saturday and I don't have a working brain...). It is Northwest Ale yeast. I don't want to do anything too plain, like an apa or anything. I'm really bummed that I can't do my porter recipe, but like i said in the OP, it's not...

    Stupid Decision, Need ideas.

Well I pulled a boner-headed move (not a typo). I put together a recipe for a Vanilla java bourbon aged porter, complete with a few yeast choices. Well I was running some errands the other day and decided to pick up some yeast. My mind went blank and I couldn't remember any of the 3 yeast...

    Can I / Should I bottle?

It is in secondary. I transferred about 2 months ago. The beer was at 10% back then and the yeast i used can tolerate about 14 to 15% according to wyeasts' website. I know I should be taking gravity readings, I just haven't been. I was thinking that the remainder of the CO2 produced...

    Can I / Should I bottle?

Thanks for the heads up. Just to clarify, there are dozens of constantly flowing small bubbles moving to the head-space at any given time.

    Can I / Should I bottle?

So I brewed a beer last year in late November and it is still fermenting. It is a mad elf clone, sort of. I used raspberries and blackberries that I de-seeded manually - instead of cherries (oddly enough, it tastes almost the same as the original beer), and used about 4 lbs of honey for my 5g...

    Gravity points from fruit

So I'm starting to put my honey into my carboy. Since I didn't add everything all at once, I'm going to have to estimate an OG. So I put 3 lbs of honey into a calculator I have online (not beersmith) and it's telling me that it's only going to give me 21 gravity points. This isn't even close...

    Gravity points from fruit

Thanks. I also found a couple of older posts on here about using fruit to boost gravity. I am just going to calculate everything without the fruit. I ended up using blackberries too, which apparently have significantly more sugar than raspberries.

    Gravity points from fruit

Here's my situation. I am making an offshoot of Mad elf and I want to use raspberries instead of cherries (yes i know, seeds shouldn't get in it). I was told that it is better to add my extra fermentables (honey and fruit) in the fermenter. So I can't just calculate my change in gravity to...

    Efficiency

So here's the word's stupidest question. How do you measure efficiency? I see a lot of posts boasting about high efficiency, but I'm pretty lost on how it's calculated or estimated. Any beginner info on efficiency would be great. If there's a page or a site or whatever that explains a lot...

    Installing a Valve/Therm

No disrespect, but I understood about 3 words of that. It may be out of the question for me to do this. It's not of dire necessity so i'll most likely just use my pots as is.

    Installing a Valve/Therm

Lets say I wanted to install a thermometer or a valve at the bottom of my stainless steel kettle. How impossible is this? What is the easiest/best/cheapest way to puncture a hole/holes into a stockpot? I'm sure I missed a post about this somewhere, so if someone could let me know, that would...
