    Continuously saving bottled yeast?

Hi, I've been trying to educate myself as much as I can about yeast culturing and I'm excited to start trying it soon. My favorite aspect that I've read is that you can save the yeast from the bottom of some home brews or even from certain commercial beers. I've read up on a few methods to...

Gravity Question - Adding sugar after fermentation has begun

I snagged Sam Calagione's Extreme Brewing from the library and I'm currently brewing my second (modified) recipe from his book. First, I did the Imperial Pale Ale recipe, and now I'm doing a weizen- my only question is about gravity calculation. In the imperial pale ale, he says to add brown...

    Didn't clean the bottles!!!

I've made a couple batches where I did that too. Some of 'em might taste a little funky, but they should be drinkable. You know... unless there are some pretty resilient spiders hanging out inside the bottles :D

    2ndary Fermenting with fruit

Hey all, I want to make a few nice witbiers this summer, using extract and fresh fruit hopefully. My question is- would it be possible to brew a 5 gallon batch using a fairly straight forward wheat beer recipe, place it in a primary fermenter, but then split the batch into 5 separate 1 gallon...

    French Press hopping before drinking

Hmm. Was so curious about this that I posted the thread before checking the other ones. Guess its being covered already... woops!

    French Press hopping before drinking

I read in a later issue of Zymurgy that another method of hopping is to pour a bottle of beer into a french press and then pour some hops into it, let it sit for a while, and then press it and drink it. Seems like a good way to really get a good feel for different types of hops, and I was just...

How do you name your original recipes?

Mostly I stick with the same style you've got, rjcortez, except the tunes I name mine after are metal songs- Freezing Moon Maple Ale (Mayhem), Scars (Morbid Saint), Raise the Dead English Brown (Venom).

    Brewery names--what's your story?

I'm pretty into Heavy Metal and so far all my brews have been named after something in that vein. So I dubbed mine the "Celtic Froth Home Brewery" After one of the coolest bands I've ever heard, Celtic Frost. I also have a friend who's a devoted metalhead and she has a gift for making some...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Im going to be making my first original recipe today. Its a little like a Kolsch style, and hopefully will work out great. I plan on mostly doing original recipes for awhile so I can start adjusting them and get a better feel for ingredients.

Awesome, thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it ;)

Which type of glue works best for labeling bottles?

My friend and I have a good thing going here at the Celtic Froth Home Brewery, but the main thing we can't get a definite answer on right now is the correct glue to use for the labels. I haven't made any attempts yet but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I don't have...

Is it legal to send homebrew overseas in the mail?

Excellent, I'll give it a shot then as it gets closer. I wasn't sure if I should waste my time trying if some of you have had experience with it but i'll at least try now. Much appreciated, folks :D [I'll letcha know what they tell me].

Is it legal to send homebrew overseas in the mail?

I have a friend in Norway who knows I've started homebrewing on my own, and is curious about what I've made. Every Christmas we send eachother packages through the mail, and this year I want to surprise her and send her some microbrews from Wisconsin and some homebrews I've made myself- but I'm...

    Fixing flat beer

Guess I'll stick em in my parents basement for now so i'm not tempted ;) That would explain the rest of the carb problems I've had in the past as well- This is my 5th batch I think? I've always brewed beers on the heavier side and they've never been carbonated as much as I wanted but come to...

    Fixing flat beer

Im searching but can't find how much priming sugar was used, but it was from a Brewers Best kit. If theres a standard for how much they give you then that is what I have always used. I prepared the primer by boiling the sugar in 2 cups of hot water for 5 minutes, then I poured half of it in the...
