    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Somewhat related, once I get the kettle cleaned, would it be a good idea to re-passivize the kettle?

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

The holes on the bottom look like that. The hole on the side I don’t quite get as much. Wonder what the hell happened. I’ll try and track down a false bottom to fit. First issue after nearly a year of brewing.

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Well. I tried it and it does have a little smokiness to it. I’m just not sure if that’s psychosomatic or not. Even if I can get my kettle clean in the next 30 minutes, I’m probably going to run out of time to finish this today. 90 minute boil, then chill and aerate. Afraid I’m probably just...

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Part of the problem is I single vessel BIAB. So the kettle with the scorched plastic is my BK and I still have to boil it. I don’t have a great way to store this unless I chill it and put it in a Home Depot bucket. Which I’m not sure it’s a great idea.

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Is that batch of wort trash now? I have it all saved but I’m wondering if that’s what happened to the bag it was in, do I really want to continue trying to brew with it. Never happened to me before so any input is appreciated. I’m kind of leaning better safe than sorry.

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

this is super baked on the bottom. I have all my work out and covered so no bugs getting it. I’m going to try and clean the bottom of the kettle. If anyone has suggestions, I’d love them.

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Well, that’s a first for me. I’m using an induction top. The last two brew days I’ve used it for her been absolutely fine. I wonder what the difference is. I’m going to transfer all the wort out and check inside the kettle to see if there’s any of the bag melted onto the kettle. Is the wort even...

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Upon review, probably a bad idea since it’s just an HDPE bucket. Currently going to drain in to every pot in the house and hope it is enough. 🤞🏻

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Current plan is to transfer the wort out the BK into a spare Home Depot bucket that I just added my spare BIAB bag to. But I’m not sure if the HD can safely take 155 degree water.

    Help! BIAB Bag tear

Help! I’m in the middle of mashing a Belgian Dubbel and my BIAB Bag must have a developed a hole as there is clearly grain that has gotten through. What should I do? 30 minutes until my bag hoist. I’d hate to have wasted all morning..

    Drilling in SS

I just drilled a hole in a SS lid for a steam slayer. I used this thing with a generous application of 3 in 1 oil: Drill Bit | 42 mm Hole Saw Low speed and slow and I got a perfect hole out of it. I didn’t even need to clean up the edges. Make sure you make a good indentation with a nail or...

Wilser BIAB vs The Brew Bag?

So I have both. Started with a Brew Bag and it was fine. Just made a dedicated brew space and order the “Grand Slam” from Wilser for the pulley and hop socks but also to try out the different bag. Having brewed with it twice now, Wilser Bag hands down.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Any thoughts on a good source for said “3lb chunk of steel” 😄 I wonder if Harbor Freight has something that could suffice.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Part of the hang up is I couldn’t center the steam slayer as the lid has a fixed handle in the middle: I do 3 gallon batches in my 5.5 gal BK so during mash, I’m full almost to the very top. Porting the steam slayer in the side is doable as long as I plug the hole during mash, and then lift...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

No clamps on the BK itself. The rim of the pot is pretty thin so rigging something up may be tougher

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Good point. Any other suggestions for a counterweight for the lid?

    Flat bottles

Possible. I didn’t notice much difference in resistance in prying them off. However, I can tell if it’s flat as soon as I pry the top off. Either I get that satisfying sound of pressure release or I don’t. same bottles, same caps, same capper as usual.

    Flat bottles

I’m at a bit of a loss. I brewed up an Altbier, sat in the primary for 11 days and was done fermenting. Bottled it with the same process I use for every beer, including using carb drops for ease of use, let them sit 3+ weeks in the house at 69 degrees to carb up. Since that 3+ weeks have passed...
