    Dry Hopping with Cascade

Is there really any such thing as too much hops anymore?

    What size is my tank?

I think I got screwed at the welding supply. I thought my tank was a 5 lb, but the guy told me it was a 10 lb, and it cost me $18 to fill it. It only cost me $10 the last time at a different place. How can I tell what size my tank is?

    No base grains

The white wheat, pilsner, and rye are all base malts.

    Citra Pale ale...very bitter

I have been told never to use citra as boil hops. I bet that is the reason.

    Mashing technique

I have no problem just dumping it back in. Just don't do a whole bunch at one time.

    Opening Experiments- Citra

Everyone I have talked to who has boiled citra has told me not to do it. Use it for aroma, but not bittering

First All Grain... just went into the fermenter.

I am kind of curious about the very small amount of wheat malt in there. Being a base malt, it doesn't seem like it would do much to the flavor or body in such a small amount.

Ever broke the neck off a carboy?

That's some awful thick glass and really not that much weight. I have always used that type of handle and never had a problem.

    Stainless Steel Hop Sock

I would be really interested to find out how well that works. I used to clip all my hop socks to the side of my kettle, but I have gone to letting them float around in there freely because it seems like they mix in better. If that works well, I would love to do something like that and be done...

    First Taste Test Tonight

Forgot to ask before i did something!!!???

I have done a honey bitter recipe before that had 2 lbs of honey in it and had little or no honey flavor. Because it is all sugar it ferments almost completely away.

    Red Stripe isnt too bad....

Almost every beer has a time and place. I will still buy Miller Light sometimes. When you're going to float around in the pool and smoke cigars and drink beer all day, you just need something light and beer flavored. No matter how much you like fillet Mignon, a good 'ol MacDonald's cheeseburger...

    Beverage Factory

This is why it is better to buy large or expensive items from a local supplier. Anyone you can stand eye to eye with will take care of you, and you'd be all set by now. Vote with your wallet and don't give your money to companies that can ignore you. You pay a little more here and there, but you...

    Question on sanitizer dilution issue

I had the opposite problem. The .5 in the 1.5 on the side of my bucket had rubbed off, so I was filling it with 1.5 gallons of water, thinkg it was a gallon, and adding enough star san for 1 gallon. No huge problems, but my beer definitely tastes a little better since I fixed it.

thinking of making the move to all grain

I agree on the burner part. I have always done it on my stove, and that will save you a bunch of money. If you are doing 5 gallon batches, start with a 5 gallon cooler, and you can get that for $18 at Home Depot. It is easy to move up to a larger cooler later if you want to do higher gravity...

    Fermenting in buckets sucks!

I also like them because you can pour from your kettle into the bucket from about 4 feet and really aerate the wort well.

Help Playing around With My Recipe

Oops, thats what I get for doing this in the middle of brewing here it is: 8 lbs 2 row 1 1/2 pounds Munich 1 oz Tettenang Bittering 1 oz Saaz at 15 mins It was pretty obvious from the start that this would not be very amber, but I thought I would give it a try. I added 1 oz Fuggles as first...

Help Playing around With My Recipe

I am in the process of brewing the Alaskan Amber clone from North American Clone Brews, and it is obvious that it will not be amber in any way. I could tell this while I was sparging, so I decided to play with the recipe a little and add some first wort hops. I am sitting here watching the...
