    Oxydation and the fermonster

Thanks for all the help on this. I’m noticing the oxydatikn, however, as I transfer to keg via racking vane. I take a sample for fg via the cane and th beer is way darker than it should be and has scant hippiness despite. 6 oz galaxy in whirlpool and another 6 in dry hop. So somehow O2 is...

    Oxydation and the fermonster

Hey there, I've been having an oxydation problem lately (I think). Most of my hazy hoppy NEIPA's are coming out dark and not very hoppy despite 6ozn of hops in whirlpool and another 6 in dry hop. This problem semmed to start when I swithced from my old bucket fermenter to a fermonster. Has...

    London III vs. Juice

I've heard this. But I've also heard they produce different tasting beers. Wierd. That's one reason for the experiment.

    London III vs. Juice

Hey all, I'm working up an experiment comparing two 2.5 gallon smash beers that differ only in yeast variety. One will get London III and the other Imperial Juice. I know that the cell count in the two packets is different. London III has 100 billion cells and Juice has 200 billion. Is it a...

Thoughts on a new brew kettle?

I started, as folks above have mentioned, with my 5-gallon extract kettle and an added bag. I made several 2.5-3 gallon batches. I then borrowed an 8-gallon kettle and made 5-gallon batches. It was always a very tight squeeze, sometimes requiring setting aside some water and adding it back...

    Fermentation temp. What's too high?

Does anyone have a good link to a cold crash suck back solution?

    Fermentation temp. What's too high?

You all are seriously talking me into a fermentation fridge. Been looking around on craigslist for a mini-fridge. Is it a problem if it has a freezer section at the top? Also, regarding cold crashing. How do you avoid sucking oxygen back into the fermenter? Thanks again.

    Fermentation temp. What's too high?

Hey there, I make mostly NEIPAs and I haven't used temp control. I just ferment at room temp. In the summer that means low to mid 70s. Is that too high? What problems will arise at this temp? What off-flavors? I use Wyeast London III yeast. Thank you!

How to get started making starters

Hey folks, I'm contemplating getting the stuff I need to make yeast starters. Is this kit decent? Specifically, is the stir plate a good value? https://www.homebrewing.org/Yeast-Starter-Kit_p_2592.html Thanks, Adam

    Pitching multiple dry yeasts

Thanks for the feedback. I'm making the clone designed by Marshall Bishop. https://trinitybrewers.com/brews/ipa/julius-clone-treehouse-brewing-ipa/ Have you tried this?

    Pitching multiple dry yeasts

Hey folks, I'll be making this Treehouse Julius clone. It calls for using a mixture of dried yeasts. In order to replicate the recipe, the yeasts need to be measured. I plan to pour the yeasts into a small bowl to weigh them and then pitch from the bowl. My question is this. Do I need to...

Worth the risk to keep using my Fermonster?

I use tap water. I'm on city water, not a well. Haven't had an issue until these last two batches. I brew in a bag and do a full volume mash.

Worth the risk to keep using my Fermonster?

Thanks Dgallo. I thought I'd be OK with pitch rate since it was a smallish batch. I was surprised by my FG, but a couple of gravity readings over 3 days showed no change. I fermented at room temp the whole time... low 70's. I think I will take your advice and try to be more methodical about...

Worth the risk to keep using my Fermonster?

Hey there. Wanted to ask a question of folks on this thread. I have a 7 gal. Thermonster with no spigot. A few weeks ago I made a batch of IPA using Wyeast London Ale. It didn't start fermenting for 2.5 days. Then it never got really vigorous. Once kegged and carbed and tasted, I realized it...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Ah. That makes sense. It's not that a beginner would outgrow it as they became more experience. It's just a super easy entry point. Thanks!

Clean beer lines without a kit?

Hey there, I just built a keezer and am going to clean the lines before the first use. Can I just put BLC into an empty corny, hook it to my CO2 tank and pump the BLC through the lines and faucets? Or is it better to get one of those kits with the hand pump? Thanks
