I am in the Riverside area as well. How old is the plate chiller?

    Ommegang Rosetta

Awesome! seems like it is worth a shot then. and that makes sense about the tie up of equipment. I am definitely a little worried about that. That is why part of me is contemplating trying to make a cherry beer that is similar to the beer in terms of flavor.

    Ommegang Rosetta

I mean, i can also buy great IPA for less. Does that mean i dont want to brew it? no. that's part of being a home brewer for me.

    Budweiser Repeal Reserve Amber Lager

I will definitely try one. I don't see any reason not to. At the very least, it is additional research/information I can bank away about the industry. It would also be cool to see if they try it again one day and I can compare. I am also a sucker for historically inspired anything.

Tips for a first time beer judge?

Advice from not a judge, but a recent participant: please give as much info/description as possible. I just got three score sheets for a beer and one was great and informative and one gave me absolutely nothing after he detected a flavor he didn't like.

    Ommegang Rosetta

I fell in love with the wrong beer. I have now had this beer 3 times and every time it is like an experience. So much so, that I have easily put it up with my top 5 favorite beers. It may even be the absolute top. I have only ever found it in 2 restaurants, one in the Bay Area, and one in my...

I can respect that, but I also agree with the above that someone on here could probably help you really quickly.

Question about alcohol and brewing time - pregnancy

I am not really familiar with ETOH. However, with the hydrometer, you can measure the original and final specific gravities. Using those numbers, you can plug them into an equation and then come up with the alcohol content. most hydrometers have multiple reading scales. the one you mentioned, I...

    LupuLN2 Pellets- How to use

I have yet to use them, but I am there with you. I think late late in the boil would be the earliest.

    Pitched ale yeast into lager

Definitely don't dump. Even at cold temps, an ale yeast will start fermenting. I only have experience with that type of yeast at warm temps, but Hefe yeasts go nuts, so I am sure that being colder than normal wont necessarily stop this one. You definitely could add in a lager yeast, but I am...

    Beer Buyouts

I agree with the original list to an extent. I have a less hard time buying beer from Lagunitas or the CBA group (widmer, pyramid, red hook, etc.). I think that AB is trying to play more games than Heineken. Therefore, I don't mind Lagunitas being fully owned by them. I think that Heineken is...

    Cider won't ferment

At this point, I would scrap the cooler ferment and raise the temp. It may not be exactly what you were wanting, but it should help or it will rule out one of the issues.

    Death to The BN Forum?

To be honest, I can't tell if you are making a joke or are asking a real question. If it is a joke, it is fairly funny as the forum is very inactive. If not, I will explain. The BN (Brewing Network) is a group of about 5 or so podcasts centered around beer and home brewing. They have ebbed...

    Death to The BN Forum?

I am listening to the archives for the first time while listening to new shows as they come out. It has definitely deviated from home brewing, but it is still entertaining and I think there is good beer knowledge in it still. I listen to Experimental Brewing, Dr. Homebrew, and the Brulosophy...

    Death to The BN Forum?

It now works for me. I wonder if there was a glitch, or maybe maintenance just for the forum.
