American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

Hi Marjen, I can't speak to extract; I've never done this recipe using it. Go back to the very first few pages and read my versions of the recipe again. Wyeast 1318 is really important to achieving this recipe, as are the massive dry hops. I also think that the pure Columbus boil is critical...

    Pressure transfer/keg. Help

Keep it simple! Just attach a gas disconnect with a barb fitting. Attach some beverage tubing to barb, and put the end in a bucket. If beer comes shooting out the tube, you know it's full. Easy.

    Brewing on a Weeknight

Yes! 30min mashes and 30 min boils can really help cut the time down as well. Adjust your recipe accordingly. I've been doing these for a few months now with fantastic results. I combine this with BIAB and I can go end-to-end in just over 2hrs.

    Grill Grate False Bottom

When I looked at the trades on this question, it was pretty easy to justify the one from brewhardware. A grate from Amazon ranges from $10-$30 dollars, are debatably stainless, and don't include feet or other means to set it up in your kettle. The false bottoms from brewhardware are, like, $30...

Interested to see how the milk sugar impacts this beer. I've definitely heard of milk sugar in beers before, and in NEIPAs, but I've never tried it before. Please let us know how it goes!!

Omega yeast - certain strains $3.98

Just an FYI...at their retail locations in both Mpls and St. Paul, their Omega yeast is fairly old. Most of the pouches, as of a few days ago, were from October. Same thing with White Labs. Had to go Wyyeast to get anything from even December. Who knows about age with the online stuff, but...

    Can I borrow a ½" punch?

$12 for step bits is a nice way to go. I've done up to 3/4" holes with step bits in keggles and it's very simple. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DU3UWXI/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

AHA/Surly wort giveaway - recipe ideas?

I'll be there as well. Thinking a smack pack of 3711 with a 1-2oz dry hop of something like Nelson Sauvin. This one has got me a bit confused!

Sorry for the delay. Here are the pics! *Note that I will be keeping the Quick Disconnect fittings for my next setup.

    Minnesota 3 Vessel HERMS System

I am upgrading my homebrew equipment (finally going electric!) and will be selling most of my current kit. It's a 3 vessel HERMS system of keggles (15.5 gallons each) that can do up to 12 gallon all-grain batches. I've also done brew-in-a-bag in the boil kettle before, which worked well. Just...

    Tweaking a process

I'm doing 10gal batches. Perhaps that accounts for some differences. As always YMMV.

    Tweaking a process

I find fly sparging can actually save time over batch sparging. As soon as there's maybe 1 gallon in the boil kettle, light the flame and get it heating. Keep the flame underneath the kettle as your fly sparge proceeds and by the time it's done, the whole boil kettle will be just about boiling...

    Two mash tuns one stout

I've done this exact thing, and it works really well! 2 mash tuns, draining into one boil kettle. Just pretend this is two separate beers until you start draining into the kettle. Two mashes, two strike water calculations, two water/salt/acid additions and that's it. Just drain into a single...

American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

Thanks @danszabrew! I recently tasted some Congress Street fresh out of can. I don't know if I've changed, or they have, but it was not the same beer I remember. It was aromatic, yes, but not nearly so much as this recipe or as I recall. It didn't have that velvety mouthfeel as I recalled too. I...

Totally normal! Give it a few days to settle down. All that harshness from the yeast will fade as the yeast drops. In my experience it takes 3-5 days to go away completely.
