    What are you drinking now?

Last nights celebratory beer! Finally got Bow & Arrow running 100%, moving on to Triple Strike which is significantly less complex. Cheers!

    Norovirus!

Last weekend I dropped my buttered slice and I was thinking of MythBusters before it hit the floor. Ironically it landed butter side up, indicating I had buttered the wrong side of the bread. I still ate it. Norovirus is the most common cause of gastroenteritis (stomach flu). Indeed, there is...

    Keg beer quality?

I think this is it, if you are only at 3-5 PSI in the keg you are losing carbonation over time. The reason for the longer length is to reduce pressure between keg and faucet, so that you can store beer at the appropriate carbonation level and not have a super-soaker style faucet on the other...

    Keg beer quality?

Serving pressure / line size / carbonation volume are all related here. Have you reviewed your beer line length to work with your CO2 regulator pressure? You normally end up with 4' of tubing +/- coiled up before the faucet, at least that's how my system looks. <Edit for flavor comment> it...

    What are you drinking now?

Bally Bow & Arrow… game won’t complete start sequence. Game over/reset coils are not firing I am down to chasing wires and verifying switches since visually everything checks out. I got frustrated with zero progress so I went to watch some videos on the subject. Today is round 4.

    What are you drinking now?

Having a “smoke” while troubleshooting a 1975 pinball. Anyone prefer to save a pint for post-work reward? I’ve changed my brewing to drink during cooldown, but this feels like a winter garage beer.

What I did for beer today

Found the appropriate power supply for my $3 bin store Malstrom stir plate, during research for said power supply I notice the sales info states "starters up to 5 gallons". I never thought about spinning up a carboy, those typically become 5 gallon brews and wash the slurry afterwords... but I...

    Anyone listen to Clutch?!

It never occurred to me to look for gearheads here at HBT. Cheers! Waiting for 2025 tour dates to be announced so I can start planning customer visits in my territory. Luckily the territory spans from Omaha to Maine, I have a quarter of the map. Last year took me to Nebraska and Brooklyn for...

    founders red's rye ipa clone

Some Zombies are worth keeping around.. such as this Reds Rye thread. Researching this brew because I really miss it, I find that Founders now includes Abby malt in their description with Caramel and Rye, FWIW. I might swap out some 2 row for Abby and see how it goes. This is one I plan on...

What I did for beer today

Saved a Malestrom stir plate from the bin-store flippers. $3 without a cord! Shocking to see how much they sell these for at NB. Looking forward to rummaging through my AC adapter collection for the appropriate 700MA, 12VDC power supply. It says it'll handle up to a 5 gallon carboy which makes...

    Old style phone culture

A bit before my time with the alpha-numeric operator lingo, but I went on a little research and one author had this gem, "Once, when I called from long distance and Mother didn’t answer, the Atlanta operator said, “She’s probably at the Farm Bureau meeting, I’ll try there.” And, she was."...

    Old style phone culture

Grew up in a bowling alley.. this was quite the boredom breaker once you ran out of quarters! Then there was the phenomenon when you picked up the phone to make a call and someone you knew was already on the line.

    Kolsch yeast origins/differences

+1 on the journey for a great Kolsch 2025. I just returned from Germany and dusting off Eric Warners book while searching for advice on HBT. I have not ventured into pressure ferment yet but I think my first attempt(s) will use more traditional process. Good info here! "souvenir" for inspiration

Weird house / real estate listings.

Vinyl siding salesman of the year! I'm hoping someone won a bet with this production On the bright side, if the house wiring is like the garage any overloaded circuits will be easy to trace.

    WLP833 Yeast question

You can mix yeast without worry, it can limit temp range. I would peg the fermenting chamber at 65F just in case that 833 is still active, lager yeast can throw esters for a long time.

    WLP833 Yeast question

Liquid yeast really does benefit from a starter even if you do a mason jar on the counter. I would expect to see some visual signs by now but you may be in an extended growth phase with a low starting cell count. Finishing Sunday night, you will probably see some activity later today. If not I...
