Any place in Canada where I can buy a Keging system and kegs.

+1 for OBK, got all my stuff from them, I still make monthly grain and yeast buys from them. If your order is over $100 then shipping is flat rate at $10 up to a certain size/weight. I have literally searched all of the interwebs for better prices and though you may find one or two items cheaper...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be attempting my first double brew day this Sunday. Gonna brew an American blonde as well as an English pale ale, gotta keep the pipeline going.

New post a picture of your pint

My first all grain brew, an American IPA. Still a little cloudy, but delicious none the less.

    What to expect starter

It's probably fine, I'm sure it's just taking some time for the yeast to multiply since your viability was on the low side. RDWHAHB

    Whats my efficiency

Brewers friend gives a brew house efficiency of 73.48%

I got a sweet new fermentation chamber!

You lucky dog, don't even have to open the lid. I would install a mirror on top at 45 degrees and move it into the living room, that way you can sit on the couch and watch er bubble.

    Best mini fridge for kegerator?

Looks identical to my costco danby fridge. If so, with a few little mods (cutting the door panel out) you can fit 2 ball lock Cornys and your tank to boot.

    Should I bottle or wait?

If you have any temp fluctuations they can cause false airlock activity. Any chance its cooling down a little at night (sucking in) then just bubbling off as it warms up during the day? All it would take is a degree or so and some headspace.

    Fermenting in buckets is boring!!

I just upgraded to 32L semi opaque buckets and i can see both the trub and krausen through them. They are made of Poly Propylene so they are more oxgen permeable but they withstand heat better than HDPE, which is good cause I lauter into my fermenter since I only have one brew kettle/HLT. I was...

    Crystal 80L Recipe

The recipe is from an all grain kit that comes from an online HBS. Heres a link where you can read the reviews: http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/Irish_Red_Ale_All_Grain_Home_Brew_Beer_Recipe_Kit_p/grainkit-irish-red-ale.htm The recipe is on that same page, it calls for; 8lbs 2 row, 2 lbs...

    Crystal 80L Recipe

I was planning on making an Irish red this past weekend with 20% 80L and the rest 2 row. Didn't work out since I got shorted a pound of grain on my order but I've read reviews that say it's a fairly good easy recipe. So don't be afraid to go as high as 20%

    Last minute change up...

Haha sounds good, anyway fermentation kicked off in about 4 hours and within 24 hours it had a 6" krausen which has since dropped off. With a flashlight held up against the semi opaque fermenter it does have a somewhat red hue, so maybe I'll be alright. I also did the calculation and looks like...

Need help picking a cooler mash tun

I've never tried the round coolers but my mash tun is a Coleman extreme 48qt. With 12 lbs of grain it loses 0.9 degrees F in 60 mins. It was however a pain right in the butt to get a seal on the bulkhead. They drilled the hole for the drain at the very bottom so the gasket doesn't sit on a flat...

Grain Mill at OBK? Any experience?

I've got the same mill, it works well enough but as said the set screws for holding it in tune tend to loosen off. I torqued the hell out of mine and now they don't move.

    Viable Cells: dry vs liquid

So I keep reading this on HBT that it seems to be common knowledge that an 11.5g pack of dry yeast has approximately double the viable cells of a vial or pack of liquid yeast. Where does this come from? A pack of US-05 (arguably one of the most popular dry yeast strains) ships from the lab with...

    Last minute change up...

I was just going by the SRM approximation in brewers friend... I've no idea how to formulate beers based on flavor and such. I just went with what I had... OG turned out spot on if that means anything, 22L at 1.060. Was planning on 23L but I decided to leave a bit in the kettle as it started...

    Last minute change up...

Well I'm on the middle of my second all grain brew day and had to make a recipe change. I went to grind my grains and found that they shorted me a lb of crystal 80 on my last order... So instead of 2 lbs of crystal 80 I had to improvise with 1lb of English brown malt that I had reserved for my...

    Best Thermometer for Brewing Day?

That dual probe meter is pretty sweet, but I wouldn't trade my thermapen for it. I use my thermapen literally every day while cooking, and the speed really is what makes it so useful. I open the bbq, poke the salmon and I'm out with my reading in like 5 seconds flat. When brewing ive got it...
