MattMill LauterHelix (false bottom/bazooka tube alternative)

Has anyone tried one of these as opposed to a false bottom or bazooka tube? Looks interesting... http://www.austinhomebrew.com/MattMill-LauterHelix-1000_p_7190.html

    SS Brewtech conical temp control

I was actually planning to buy the 14 gallon BME with the built-in immersion chiller and insulated jacket. I'm just trying to decide on whether I need to spend $120 on the SS Brewtech temp controller and pump or if I can make my existing gear work. I guess all I really need is a cold water...

    SS Brewtech conical temp control

I'm looking at picking up a 14 gallon conical fermenter in the next couple of weeks, and I was curious about temperature control options. I know that SS Brewtech sells their own system, but since I already have an immersible pump and a digital temp controller I was curious about just rigging...

Is a diacetyl rest necessary when dry-hopping?

I have been brewing for a couple of years, but I'm just starting to get serious about good practices, doing a lot of reading, etc. My Pliny clone is done fermenting (about 1.008) after 7 days. I have read that a lot of people recommend letting the yeast continue to work for a couple of days...

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

well, I pushed some co2 through the airlock hole into the fermenter, so hopefully that keeps the beer from getting too oxidized.

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

Well, crap. I literally just dropped the hops into the fermenter. Hopefully, I didn't introduce too much oxygen to the fermenter. I unscrewed the lid and popped open the gasket for maybe a second while I dropped the hops in. There's still some airlock bubbling going on, so hopefully the yeast...

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

Yeah, I'm not going to reuse this yeast. They're probably going to be pretty useless after fermenting a beer this big.

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

15.5 lbs 2-row .5 lb C120 .5 lb Victory I added a lb of light DME to the kettle since my mash was a little less efficient than I anticipated.

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

I was planning to transfer to a secondary fermenter for another 5-7 days. I know that secondary fermentation is kind of unpopular, but my understanding is that dry hopping is the exception. I was going to use hop socks and add 4 oz of hops to the fermenter. I guess I could just add them to...

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

    Mash temp was about 150-151

Should I add yeast, keep waiting, or what?

I got into brewing a couple of years ago and brewed about 6-7 batches. My last one was not great and kind of put me off for a while. A year later, I have done a lot of research and have realized that I was doing so much wrong. Anyway, I brewed a clone of Avery Maharaja (one of my favorite...

    Saison fermentation time?

Well, my garage isn't really getting hot during this time of year, so I bought a heating pad and set my fermenter on it. It's been on there for about 30 minutes and the airlock is already bubbling again. Hopefully this does the trick.

    Saison fermentation time?

Yeah, mine was going crazy for the first few days. My airlock was bubbling like crazy, but then it stopped. I didn't think anything of it, since the bubbling usually slows down after a few days.

    Saison fermentation time?

Thanks for the input - it sounds like temperature is the issue. I moved the fermenter into the garage. I'm in south Texas and temperatures are in the 80s right now, so hopefully that will help. If not, I'll try a heating pad or something. btw, I'm using a hydrometer to measure gravity.

    Saison fermentation time?

I brewed a Tank 7 clone from Austin Homebrew two weeks ago. The OG was just under 1.070 when I pitched the yeast (Wyeast Saison 3724). I checked it today and it was right at 1.030. Am I pretty much on track with this beer? I have read that saisons can take a while to ferment out.

    First time kegging

I figured out that the beer tube was clogged. I thought that I did a pretty good job of siphoning without gathering too much of the yeast cake, but I was wrong. There's all kinds of hop particles and whatever in there. So now I get to figure out what to do with this. I guess I can siphon it into...

    First time kegging

I checked this (just to make sure it wasn't an "are you sure it's plugged in" problem). No dice.

    First time kegging

I was just kidding about the "spray beer everywhere" method, btw. I don't know if the output is clogged or not. I don't think that there's enough sediment to clog the tube, but maybe there is. Nothing happens when I push the out.

    First time kegging

I just kegged my first brew in a pin lock corny keg a few days ago. I force carbonated it and now I can't get it to dispense. I disconnected it from the gas and tried to relieve the pressure by pushing in the gas poppet and beer sprayed everywhere. I'm pretty sure that I overfilled the keg and...
