How much does WLP001 attenuate overnight?

I know that there's really no scientific way to determine what the actual OG is; I'm just wondering if anyone has checked the gravity of their wort the next day and found that it had dropped a point or more. The wort should be very fermentable. There's almost a pound of corn sugar in there and...

How much does WLP001 attenuate overnight?

15 lbs of 2-row, .25 lbs of C60, 12 oz corn sugar. According to BeerSmith, the gravity should have been 1.089. I made a 2L starter and there was a lot of activity this morning when I took the sample.

How much does WLP001 attenuate overnight?

I brewed a big double IPA yesterday and forgot to take a gravity reading when the brew day was over. I checked it this morning and it was at 1.071. Any idea where it may have started?

Hop selection: cleaning out the freezer

I do 5 gallon batches. I like using WLP001, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Hop selection: cleaning out the freezer

I wouldn't be opposed to brewing a smash. I've never done one, and the idea is appealing to me.

Hop selection: cleaning out the freezer

I've got about 1/2 lb each of chinook, cascade, and willamette hops in the freezer. I've also got an oz or two of centennial and simcoe. I'm looking to brew a biggish IPA (probably ~7-8%) this weekend. Any suggestions about grain bills, hop schedules, etc? I'd like to brew something kinda...

    Did I kill my yeast?

I put the dry hops in last night, so it still has about a week to go. Hopefully it'll creep down closer to 1.015.

    Did I kill my yeast?

Dude, I had no idea that alcohol messes with the refractometer reading. I just took a reading with a hydrometer and it's right at 1.018. It's still higher than I'd like, but definitely better than 1.040.

    WLP051 California V fermentation time/temp

This fermentation has been extremely slow. It has been about 2 weeks, and it has been stuck at 1.040 for a few days. I'm going to pitch some US-05 this afternoon to get things going again.

    Did I kill my yeast?

2 days later, and the refractometer is still showing the exact same reading. I have some US-05 that I'm planning to rehydrate and pitch tomorrow if there's still no change.

    Did I kill my yeast?

I only use the water for cooling, but we had a little cold front in south Texas (temps in the 50-60s), so the pump never came on. During that time I didn't change the ice packs and the temperature of the water rose to ambient levels. I don't completely understand how the water got as hot as it...

    Did I kill my yeast?

Ok, here's the situation. I have had a beer fermenting for about 10 days now in a temp-controlled conical fermenter. I have the SS brewtech 7 gallon with the integrated chiller coil with a Johnson controller and a submersible pump. It has been colder than expected lately, so I haven't really...

    WLP051 California V fermentation time/temp

What is your experience with fermentation time for this yeast? I typically go with WLP001, but my local store was out. I brewed a pretty big beer (OG 1.084) on Saturday and pitched a 2L starter. It's been fermenting at ~67°F for 4 days. I took a sample last night and it was in the 1.050 range...

Closed transfer from SS Brewtech BME Chronical

Yeah, you would definitely need a low pressure gauge connected to your gas line if you wanted to use that ball lock connector since there isn't a PRV.

Closed transfer from SS Brewtech BME Chronical

This video doesn't really address my specific concerns. For one thing, my conical has a 3" TC, and I've never seen a 3" with a 1/4 npt. Also, my fitting has a built in pressure relief valve, so I don't need that little low pressure gauge.

Closed transfer from SS Brewtech BME Chronical

I posted this in the kegging section, but maybe it'll get more traction over here. Hey all - I'm trying to figure out what I need to buy to do closed pressurized transfers from my new BME Chronical fermenter to a keg. I don't have any TC fittings other than what was included with the...

    Closed transfer from BME Chronical

Hey all - I'm trying to figure out what I need buy buy to do closed pressurized transfers from my new BME Chronical fermenter to a keg. I don't have any TC fittings other than what was included with the Chronical. I'm thinking that I'll need a couple of tc fittings to convert from CO2-size...

First brew day with the new fermenter

I got my SS Brewtech BME Chronical this week, and I christened it with an imperial IPA brew day yesterday. I also got a march pump, so that was pretty cool. Among other things, I used it with a whirlpool fitting to circulate the wort around an immersion chiller. It helped immensely. I need...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

Here's the latest revision to my brewing area. I used to have a multi-tiered stand, but I bought a pump so I don't have to rely on gravity anymore. I'm planning to christen it with a brewing session on Saturday.
