    Fermzilla Questions

^ Finally pulled the trigger on this. So far so good. Should be dry hopping in a few days. The quality seems pretty good. The C clamps work great

No aroma from 6 oz dry hop. What gives?!

"I open the lid for roughly 10 seconds to drop the hops in, seal it, and purge 16x with 30 psi. That should result in 0 ppm of oxygen." IMO you're never going to get rid of all the O2 no matter how much you purge. Also the hop pellets are still going to have O2 attached to them after purging.

No aroma from 6 oz dry hop. What gives?!

I had an issue like that that I believe was caused by me gassing off too much CO2 as the keg was carbing up. Are you using the set and forget method? I also thought it might be my CO2 source (local spanish food mart). I read some bad sources could have some O2 mixed in? When you say "fully...

Help with how much slurry to use (lager) 34/70

For some reason i thought i had a few packs of 34/70 in my fridge. My dumb ass just brewed a 6 gallon Marzen for October. Anyways i was freaking out but remembered i brewed a Helles 2.5 weeks ago using 34/70. So i plan on kegging the Helles in a few hours and use whatever slurry is at the...

    No aroma after dry hopping

Are you doing a starsan CO2 purge? Also. I would recommend buying a stainless mesh dryhop container and drop it in the keg. Skip the fermenter hops. Cold extraction in 3-5 days. Swirl the keg every day a bit to circulate the hops. Scott Janish talks about this a lot.

    How often are you brewing?

The last 3 years on average... every 2 weeks via 12 gallon batches. I have 4 other guys drinking. I will also brew side lagers for my Dad once a month. I used to brew every week

Dried Voss (kveik in general) is amazing

^ i don't even worry about slurry cause a 1/4 pack isn't even $2 bucks. I pitched half pack in a 12 gal batch last time.

Dried Voss (kveik in general) is amazing

Pitched one pack (rehydrated) into 1.089 wort (x2IPA) 2 hours ago and it's already partying. Long gone are the days of shipping liquid yeast. Worrying about health. Making a starter. Temperature control..... have fun with that :) I probably could have pitched half this pack. $3 bucks...

What kind of equipment should I get?

A cheap used mini fridge (most will fit brew 5 gal buckets. And a $30 temp control on Amazon. Fermentation temp is very important. Especially for lagers If you do ale like an IPA.... as a beginner, use some kveik strain yeast like dried Voss. Then you don't worry about fermentation...

Voss kveik and NEIPA. When to soft crash?

UPDATE: After dryhops went in (mid fermentation) at 85f for 3 days....... I let those hop crash in the brewzilla for 2 weeks. I kegged it with a 3oz in the keg. Tastes/smell amazing.

    Fermzilla Questions

Has anyone used the new Hop Bong Pressure Pack for FermZilla? Tempted to give this a go. It's a pain dry hopping from the bottom. I have to remove trub/ yeast twice (at least) before dry hopping otherwise the yeast falls into the jar and the hops don't move...

Voss kveik and NEIPA. When to soft crash?

Thanks. I'm thinking about giving it another charge once it's at 50f in the bottom container of my fermzilla. I've never utilized that feature (purging it with CO2).... i normally just dry hop in the keg. Experimenting! Ugghh overwhelming

Voss kveik and NEIPA. When to soft crash?

In this case i think i should have stuck to my OG plan and keg hopped 4 oz in each keg. Oh well. I did a similar pale ale with Voss 3 weeks ago and added 6oz to 10 gal and the hops/beer tasted great before kegging. This was dry hopped same temperature. I guess I'll know for sure when that...

Voss kveik and NEIPA. When to soft crash?

So my NEIPA was dry hopped mid-late fermentation. And VOSS works really fast. Been dry hopped about 48 hours at 85F. When is best to soft crash down to say 55F?? Also do i gradually drop it to 55F or just set the temp and let it crash? A little worried about diacetyl and my taste buds aren't...

help w NEIPA hops --- Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic +

For what it's worth. I've had 4oz of keg hops (in mesh containers) for 6+ weeks and never noticed any off flavors. At 34f... Probably done that 30 different times. But these are mostly West Coast/Classic IPAs. And i usually shake the kegs a few times 1st 48 hours for suspension Still learning...

help w NEIPA hops --- Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic +

Thanks. After i cold crash down to say 45f, does it really matter if i keg it VS leaving it in the fermenter? I would think the yeast is dormant and all falling out... as well as hop matter clearing even more. So can i leave it 2 weeks crashed at 45F in the fermenter (slightly under...

help w NEIPA hops --- Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic +

I brewed it last night and pitched voss kveik. Fermentation went nuts this morning and was slowing down at 5pm. I just threw in 6 oz dry hops (gonna also keg hop). Bumped it up to a 11 gallon batch fyi. QUESTION. So how long should i wait until cold crashing? I heard the longer the dryhops sit...

help w NEIPA hops --- Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic +

Thanks. Sorry. I was overwhelmed earlier. I was just looking for random thoughts from anyone that's used that combo in the past. I don't brew hazy IPA very often. But now that i can close transfer, ill probably start more of them. That hop schedule sounds great. Thanks for your thoughts...
