pumpkin ale. plastic flavor??? whats up here

I would like to know this as well. I did a batch and followed renoenvy recipe and it too has a subtle plastic taste. I only tasted it while bottling so it was very green. I'm sure it will be gone once conditioned.

    Ice Stabilization

I have not done this with beer yet but have done it with blackberry wine. I filled the tap a draft bottles so they would fit in my freezer and waited until it was more solid than a slushy. I took the tap a draft bottles of frozen goodness, opened 1 up at a time and turned it upside down on the...

    Peppers Vs Yeast

If i was doing this I would add them to the secondary, wouldn't want the fermentatin to scrub out any of the flavor/aroma you're getting from the peppers. I would also go with a poblano pepper if you weren't going for heat. I have used them in cooking and jams when I wan't flavor but no heat...

    B3 2050 system

I got the tippy dump with digital smart. Didn't have the funds for full digital. I will pick up beersmith next time I go in. I am going to go watch their demo on the 10 gallon tippy dump since I have never brewed with pumps or on a system like this.

    B3 2050 system

I purchased this system yesterday and am so damn excited :rockin:. This is going to be a long 6 to 7 weeks for the build. Any tips from stepping up from 10 to 20 gallon batches or brewing on a system like this?

    No Enhancer

I don't know what the enhancer is. If this is used during the boil I would assume it helps dry out the finished product. I have added table sugar to certain recipes and it ferments out leaving no taste/residual sweetness. What does the kit say the enhancer is?

    Bottling a Lager

I would rack it to a secondary and bulk lager it. You can lager in bottles but I would think there is a chance that one bottle might differ from another, not a lot but I think it's possible (nothing to back that up though). Also i would not wan't all the yeast that falls out of suspension in my...

Is there a guide to icing beer to increase ABV?

I haven't done this with beer but have done it with blackberry wine. I used the tap a draft 1.5 gallon jug in the freezer and after a few days the wine was a little more frozen than a slushy but solid enough that i could turn the jug upside down into a 1 gallon sun tea jug to catch the...

    Cocoa powder not blending

I don't have an answer for you since I added cocoa powder to the boil and did not get what you're experiencing. I would not add chocolate bars due to butter fats. I would suggest cocoa nibs though. I mixed cocoa powder and dry nibbed and came out great, with a little age since it was first a...

Cold crash or slowly bring to lager temps?

Happy Friday!!! I brewed a Kolsch style ale and it's holding steady at 1.008 and am ready to rack to the secondary to lager. I have read to cold crash it to lager temps (i was going with 35 degrees) and also to slowly bring down to lager temps. Is there a difference in dropping the...

    infection advice

How does it smell and did you have the guts to taste it? You could try to rack from under but I think whatever got hold of your brew will follow it to another carboy/bucket. I would let it ride out and see what happens. What type of beer was this?

Hot, Alcohol Flavor in 7% beer - how long before it mellows in keg?

I had a belgian bottled and for the first year it tasted like banana rocket fuel. At 2 years it was a completely a different beer, very good and no longer ditectable. There is no timeframe as you can see. Hope yours gets better much faster!

    2nd Brew Honey Kolsch

I brewed a kolsch ale on fathers day, can't wait! I have used 3lbs in a 5 gallon batch before. Your fermentation might run a little longer than typical with this addition. The honey will ferment out leaving little to no honey taste. It will also cause your beer to dry out but I don't think that...
