My landlord told me to stop brewing!

Thanks for the info. Being an apartment complex with an on-site manager makes it easier and harder. Easier: - The laws in CA favor tenants. Heavily. Damn liberals. :D It'd be difficult to evict someone like you. - Vacancies are up. If you're paying in full on time and have had no...

My landlord told me to stop brewing!

Hey Alex - First, I'm a landlord. I have owned over 20 rental properties over time. I may not know Calif laws, but I sure as hell know Colorado. Having said that, I can probably help, but need more info. Is this a house, apartment, condo? Is the landlord a large company, individual...

    Moving to 10 gallons

Thanks for the replies. Now imagine my wife rolling her eyes when I tell her I'm going to NOW start doing 10 gallon batches. 'Weren't we supposed to SAVE money by you brewing your own beer???' Yeah, right. :D

    Moving to 10 gallons

Question about moving to a 10 gallon setup. But first... I've now been brewing about 18 months. When I first started, I talked to the guys at the LHBS, read every single thing I could get my hands on, searched the Internet, then bought my beginner kit. I figured I'd make a batch every...

    National Homebrew Day May 1........

You can't go wrong with Edwort's Haus Pale Ale. It's always on tap at my house. I have a co-worker that I fill a growler every time I have a new batch ready (he want's more, but that's all I'm willing to give up).

    NHC 2010, are you entering?

Just dropped off a 10A and 8A to Breckenridge Brewery.

    Beer and Medicine

Had my colonoscopy a couple weeks ago. What fun! Well, after a day of fasting, it definitely gave me a quick buzz, but beer definitely qualified as 'clear liquid' for me. Docs didn't seem to mind at all - if it's not red or purple it's okay. Alcohol or not. I just think they don't want...

Winter Seasonal Beer Old Fezziwig Clone

Stromam, you're absolutely right. Typo on my part. I think the original only had 5 lbs and I upped it to 7. I've made it both ways, and the extra two pounds of two row really makes no difference. Just not quite as strong. I corrected the original post. Thanks for the correction.

    Pouring Question

I get the same thing. I have a keezer with a brand-new Perlick faucet and 10' of line. Pressure is set at 8psi. The lines are definitely not warm, but I do notice that there are bubbles in the line. If I pour out the first bit of foam, I get a good pour. I'd love to hear a solution.

what's your favorite ale fermenting temp

Nice to hear someone else echo what I thought. I used S-04 on an OctoberFAST last fall, then US-05 on a pale ale. Hated them both, dumped them both. Too estery. I pretty much stick with WLP001, then wash it to save out a couple jars for the next batches. Haven't had a bad batch from this...

    Real Wort Starter modification question

Doesn't really matter if it's before or after the hop additions. I put a jar and lid in a hop bag, and let it sit in the boiling wort for about fifteen minutes to sanitize them. Then pull the whole thing out, dip the jar back into the hot wort (with some tongs), put the lid on and call it...

Why can't you just tip the cooler a bit to drain it all out?

I tip. Why would you leave good wort behind?

    Clearing up beer

+1! I used to fret about all this - whirlfloc, Irish Moss, Whirlpooling, etc. Now I do as Revvy says and leave it in the primary for at least three weeks, bottle (well, keg now), and put it in the fridge for at least a week before I drink it. Crystal clear every single time. The only...

Winter Seasonal Beer Old Fezziwig Clone

I didn't let it age very long, read at all. It sat in the bottles three weeks before I popped one open, then probably two more by the time it got to the comp. I'll remember that about the ginger next time. By the way, I disagree about it being overpowering. I can certainly taste it, but I...

Winter Seasonal Beer Old Fezziwig Clone

I'll be honest, I didn't buy SA's variety pack this year as it had mostly beer that I don't like. But - from what I recall of Fezziwig, this is pretty close. If not, it's damn good anyway. I entered this in a competition recently, and received a 33. Not stellar, but pretty acceptable for...

American Amber Ale Fat Sam Amber Ale

After a little over two weeks on gas, I just pulled my first pint of this last night. This is probably the best beer I've made to date. Great malt flavor, plenty of bitterness, with a pretty good hop nose. Definitely one I'll do again! The only thing I changed was I used Cascade for the...

    Yet another 'New Keezer' thread!

Exactly! I got used to looking at bottles to know when it was time to brew again. God forbid I should run out!

    Yet another 'New Keezer' thread!

My Christmas present. 8.8 cu ft. Fridgidaire freezer. I think it'll hold at least 6 cornies, and possibly 7. I only have one tap set up yet, as I ran out of money :( I guess I'll ask for the other 3 taps for my birthday! The collar is chalkboard paint - I talked my 16 year-old...
