New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I used to mash hop during my west coast ipa days around 10 years ago. I was trying to get as much hops in my beer as possible for those bitter bombs, lol

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

New York craft malt was my go to, I would find a pebble or two when milling. O well supporting local was more important but now I just have to find grain. $37 is a great price.

Looks great! I used Rahr back in the day because I think someone saw TH use it. It’s been awhile though because I had been using NY malt

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I fill to 6 and never had an issue with the prv becoming blocked. It has crept up the lid a couple times. Usually I ferment under 5lbs of pressure which seems to keep the krausen in check.

Moved south and haven’t brewed in about a year. Finally getting to where I can brew again, what’s happened over the past year here on the thread, any major breakthroughs?

    POF+ flavors from WLP 066

Yeah, I would say there is another yeast involved, but just a bummer because I brewed a really nice brew before the last two batches.

    POF+ flavors from WLP 066

@stijn26 I just had this experience with this yeast. The last two brews I got the clove & bandaid taste. The most recent brew it is overwhelming. I started to notice the flavor after the 4th generation of building a starter. It could be an infection, but I am pretty anal about sanitizing...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Has anyone added a second butterfly valve below the cone? I am thinking of adding another 2” valve between the cone and sight glass. My plan would be to have open during fermentation, cold crash, dump yeast, close valve upper valve and then dry hop. I don’t like seeing my dry hops fall...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

It’s happened to me and I just pushed through it. It didn’t transfer to the final beer.

I only have it at one or two psi when removing my CF5 4” cap. I too scared of that steel disk flying into my face.

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

Idk if it’s the yeast or whether the flavors marry, but I have noticed that before.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

GP adds a lot of malt character compared to 2-row. I noticed the difference between Simpsons GP and Rahr 2-Row when I switched up base malt. I may buy a sack of GP, as it’s been a few sacks since I used it. Thanks! PS. Don’t fear Hornindal. When I need a new keg in less than two weeks it’s my...
