    Fermentation question

That's what I'll shoot for in my next brew. I got sidetracked while fly sparging so I ended up fairly low on my OG.

    Dry Yeast Storage

How do you store dry yeast? Fridge? Freezer? How long of a shelf life?

    Smelly reconditioned keg

Got my 2nd corny keg. Bought reconditioned because first one was and it worked nicely. I opened it up yesterday and it smelled like root beer. Will PBW fix this?

    Fermentation question

I just made an oatmeal stout too. Mine fermented out quick, but I wait at least 7 days before taking gravity reading. I had an OG of 1.043 and FG of 1.013. I started cold crash last night and will rack to keg tomorrow and condition for two weeks. +1 on letting stouts age in the keg/bottle. BTW...

    Re-use blowoff tube?

    PBW works too!

    Is this infected, or normal?

Secondary not completely necessary (IMO), but some will suggest it. Most recipes will suggest it. But you run the risk of oxidation or infection. After it's fermented out, you could "cold crash" it if you have the space. This is dropping the temp to 38-40*F to let the yeast floc out. Unless...

Low FG - caused by high ferm temp?

I brewed this a few weeks back (Petite Saison). OG was 1.053. FG was 1.003. Had a boil over at beginning of boil which reduced my volume going into the fermenter to about 3 gallons (was supposed to be 5-gallon batch). I didn't top off, just went with it. Mash temp held at 150* F for 60 min...

    Homemade Wort Chiller

Forgot this post. I ended up buying a 17-gal wash tub to use an ice bath in conjunction with the chiller because tap water is about 85°F in the summer and I couldn't get it to pitching temp quick enough. Anyway, I'm able to get down to around 75°F in about 20-30 minutes or so from boiling. Gives...

Low FG - caused by high ferm temp?

Did you add water or did you do full boils?

    What I learned about Saisons

I brewed Petite Saison from NB because I wanted a hot weather beer. I've never had one before. I screwed up and had a large boil over at the beginning of the boil losing about 2 gallons! Since I didn't know if I should add water (my first all grain) I ended up with about 2.5 gallons in the keg...

    Perlick S/S question

I did some research and apparently it's dependent on how much nickel is in them. The nickel is what makes it nonmagnetic. The inside looks like stainless steel.

    Perlick S/S question

Got it from the beverage factory.

    Perlick S/S question

Got my Perlick PERL 525SS faucet and stainless shank combo yesterday. The faucet is supposed to be stainless steel but when I checked it with a magnet it was magnetic. when they say stainless on the faucet, does that mean just the inner part is stainless, or is the coating/finish magnetic? I...
