WYeast Propagator - Can I Make A Starter with a Pre-Made Wort? Please Help!

So I was just about to brew my next batch, and just realized unfortunately the local shop sold me a propagator not activator pack. I'm brewing a Brewhouse Red Ale kit, so I don't have any DME to make a starter. Can I use the pre-made wort included in the Brewhouse kit to make a...

Modified Brewhouse IPA Recipe - What do you think?

Bump - any thoughts on this?

Modified Brewhouse IPA Recipe - What do you think?

Thanks for the reply. Ya up in Vancouver the IPAs are nothing like they are down south, but my pallet probably falls somewhere in the middle. Would you recommend just using 1.5-2 oz of Cascade hops? What is the advantage of using different kinds of hops in the same batch?

Modified Brewhouse IPA Recipe - What do you think?

Thanks for the input. What about the brand/kind of hops and yeast? Do those seem appropriate for an IPA?

Modified Brewhouse IPA Recipe - What do you think?

So I've just finished my first batch (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/my-first-beer-complete-pale-ale-w-pics-249466/) and I'm looking to brew an IPA next. I found a recipe online for a modified IPA kit, using liquid yeast and dry-hopping. This recipe calls for a lot of dry hops, what do...

My First Beer Complete! Pale Ale w/ Pics

It was a Baron's Pale Ale kit - http://preview13.awardspace.com/brewz2you.com.au/?wpsc-product=barons-pale-ale-premium-beer-kit No modifications, added 200g of dextrose when bottling. The kit says 5% ABV, but I think it's likely a bit lower as I had to add a few extra litres of water during...

My First Beer Complete! Pale Ale w/ Pics

So it's been a week since I bottled my first batch ever of a Baron's Pale Ale and so far so good! It was a good learning experience, I'm glad I did it in the end and will definitely be making some more beers. Overall the beer turned out great, considering I made a couple small mistakes, and...

How much water did you have to add when transferring from primary to secondary?

Too bad I ****ed it up. I tasted it before I racked it and it was actually tasting pretty decent.

How much water did you have to add when transferring from primary to secondary?

The one other question I did have was with regards to leaving it in the primary for the whole time - After 6-7 days, the layer of bubbles were totally gone. Is that normal? Would it have been ok to leave it in the primary without that top layer to protect it? Also what do you mean by crash it?

How much water did you have to add when transferring from primary to secondary?

I didn't use sterile water, as we have very clean tapwater where I live, but I did sanitize the jug I used for the water. I have read a bunch on this topic. I decided to try it this way seeing as it's my first batch and go from there. I had also read online (including the instructions) and...

How much water did you have to add when transferring from primary to secondary?

So this morning I transferred my first batch of beer (Baron's Pale Ale kit) from my primary to secondary carboy. Everything went fairly well, but I ended up having to add about 5-6 litres of water once it was in the carboy. The last few litres in the primary fermenter got swished around a...

When to Transfer from Primary to Secondary?

Alright - so assuming I'm going to do two weeks in the primary (the recipe called for less that half that), should I still do two more weeks in the secondary or cut that down to 1 week?

When to Transfer from Primary to Secondary?

Thanks for all the responses! Thankfully I have plenty of beer in the fridge, so need not worry. Talking to friends who brew and reading a bit online, the suggestion was made that leaving the beer in the primary for over a week could lead to possible bacteria issues. What are the odds of...

When to Transfer from Primary to Secondary?

Hey guys - just recently joined the forum but have already got some great advice on my first home brew. I had read some other threads to try and find an answer, but my situation is a bit different so I thought I'd start my own thread. I'm brewing a Baron's Pale Ale kit that I started last...

My First Brew - What to Expect Immediately After Pitching Yeast?

Haha I was drinking most of the night as well. Seemed like the right thing to do. Another question for you guys - the instructions on my batch say it should be transferred to the secondary fermenter within 3-6 days. I have off days on day 4 and 6. Just wondering what you guys would recommend?

My First Brew - What to Expect Immediately After Pitching Yeast?

Thanks for all the responses. I understand that the bubbles in my airlock aren't a good representation of fermentation, but I'm happy to report that I checked it the following morning briefly there are some bubbles floating around on the top of the brew. Too bad I added those ice cubes -...

My First Brew - What to Expect Immediately After Pitching Yeast?

So this is my first batch (and my first post!). My friend who has brewed over 150 batches taught me a few things and I've done a lot of research prior to starting, so I'd say I have a basic knowledge level. I started off with a batch of Baron's Pale Ale - something easy to start with seeing as...
