One beer two yeasts, but how?

I'm planning on making a batch of English Mild and splitting it in two at the fermentation stage to litterally pitch two yeasts against each other, a nottingham (dry) and WLP037 (liquid) to see how they differ. I do have two fermenation bins but both are 30L and I'm a bit concerned there will...

    When to add my nuts?

Ah useful advice cheers brewers. I can happily empty my nuts into my Mash tun then!

    When to add my nuts?

I'm planning to make some beers with added nut flavours such as hazlenut and wondered when to add the nuts. I'm making an infusion by adding some chopped hazlenuts into vodka and I was going to add a drop or two of that into the finished beer. But what about adding nuts to the boil? Or dry...

Single hop, one batch experiment. Will it work?

Ok second part of the experiment underway and althought I too calculated 7.5 litres to get me somewhere near the right cricket pitch I forgot to calculate for the added volume for the LME. To use the correct American English at this point... Doh! So, with a 8 ish litre at the start of the...

Single hop, one batch experiment. Will it work?

A very good point and one worthy of a little experimentation. So thats exactly what I've done. I boiled on my proposed set up for 60 mins and here are the results. For the sake of accuracy I also note that the air pressure is 1013 and I'm at an evevation of 200 ft above sea level. Not sure...

Single hop, one batch experiment. Will it work?

Good question beerman0001 (and thanks for fast response) I hadn't thought that far ahead. 50 IBU sounds good I think just to keep it simple I'd add at 60, 30 and 15.

Single hop, one batch experiment. Will it work?

I've recently been buying a load of hops for various different recipes and now I have about 10 or so different varieties. I know that single hop beers are great to discover how a hop tastes. Sooooo..... I've been thinking what's to stop me doing one simple pale ale batch of around 25 litres...

Light fruit beers with no fruit

Thanks brewbeery. After reading your post I started a near impossible search for Simoce in the UK. Being told that it was right next to the rocking horse S##t. I lucked upon what I think is the last 200g! Will try out your recipe and let you know how I get one!

Light fruit beers with no fruit

I'm hoping to brew a beer for a friend of mine who's coming over for New years. I'm still quite new to trying out some of the new world hops but I'm noting a lot of fruit descriptions for the hops and so I'm hoping to use those flavours to design a beer just for him (a 1 gallon batch). My...

    DME lefterover recipe challenge!

Thanks for the response and useful to know about mashing MO. The DME is medium and the Crystal is I think 55, very usefully its not on the packet. Its youngs brewing supplies CM. Anyway I decided just to go ahead and have a go and ended up making the following beer. Really not sure how to...

    Another UK hello

Good point about Berry. He did indeed keep it going, starting brew circles and writing about brewing for the Mirror newspaper although he was and is much more well known for his wines over in the UK. I think when I said about the battering I failed to say that there has always been a few that...

    DME lefterover recipe challenge!

I've got some odds and ends of ingredients that need using up and want to do a brew in an evening. Anyone fancy helping me come up with a recipe? I'm thinking a small batch extract brew using the spay malt (essentially DME) as the grains are a past there best I thought steeping them. Possibly...

    Another UK hello

The scene took a bit of a battering as far as I can tell. We suffered from bad extract kits and rubbish hops (as did you guys I think) but that was back in the 1980's. It's pretty good now and just about every decent brewer seems to turn pro! We now have one brewery per every 60,000 of the...

    Another UK hello

Greetings brewers I'm another one from across the pond. I try and be a proper stereotype from my country and even have bad teeth and drink tea all the time. When I'm not brewing I'm a super villian.
