    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

I just said that more tongue in cheek than anything else. I suppose one could come up with some criteria, though it may be rather artificial, to determine if one algorithm is "better" than another. If some of those criteria had practical application like "algorithm z finds 20x more solutions y...

    Can't stand "LIFE" cereal

Can't say that I want to try the cinnamon version after that wretched abomination I had this morning called "LIFE" cereal. Hopefully my angst disappears before bedtime lest I have nightmares about it. To those who ingest the normal version I award thee a medal of valor. This medal represent...

    Can't stand "LIFE" cereal

Don't do it man, put the box down and step away - from the box of "LIFE" cereal. You'll thank me later, that you didn't end up in the ER getting your stomach pumped.

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

Not sure if this is related - law of propagation of uncertainty - some pretty grizzly stuff unless you're a statistician.

    Can't stand "LIFE" cereal

Though I regard them as self-inflicted punishment, I am able to eat them without vomiting. That gross, nasty lingering uncooked starch taste and smell of "LIFE" cereal though... BLLLLLEEECKKKK, nasty. Never again will I try that raw, heavy unmistakable grossness that is "LIFE" cereal...

    Can't stand "LIFE" cereal

Some of the nastiest stuff every made and this is coming from a guy who can stomach pretty much every other food known to man. I tried it again today because it was on special. For some reason it tastes weird and my body has a wretched reaction to it (literally puking/nausea). The rest of the...

A Genuine Viewpoint Opposing LODO As Unsubstantiated

The purpose of LODO is that it keeps oxygen from staling the wort on the hot side and the beer on the cold side. How much of a difference can be tasted in a fresh beer from each process? An exbeeriment indicated that enough of a difference was present to be distinguished by the majority of...

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

I will implement a Genetic Algorithm and you can implement Moore-Penrose PseudoInverse with Singular Value Decomposition. May the best algorithm win.

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

Are you talking about Maximum Power Point w/ singular value decomposition or some mutilated form of the image processing boundary finding MPP (minimum perimeter polygons)? I can't recall if SVD is discussed in Numerical Recipes (haven't referenced my copy for years). I still think the user...

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

You haven't started anything that wasn't present long before your question was asked. Your water will be ok. It's best not to rely on those built in profiles, instead learn about what each mineral does and the level that's appropriate for the style. Then you can simply make your own profile...

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

The question is how many combinations will be discovered using simulated annealing vs. genetic. As I've already pointed out, the greatest possible number of combinations (preferably all) need to be discovered to be successful.

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

Not suggesting an AI solution, rather a Genetic Algorithm. A little bit of sarcasm and malapropism is all. Strangely your presence is comforting.

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

    You're arguing against me, why?

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

Maybe there's a better match with salts he doesn't have but would/could easily obtain if he knew he could use them/they were beneficial. Many combinations of salts can result in the same profile. Same thing with acids/bases. Go all baking soda or limit Na by adding in pickling lime, get some...

A Genuine Viewpoint Opposing LODO As Unsubstantiated

If I could just get a taste of a well made LODO beer... Budweiser, Guinness, Heineken, Stella Artois, etc...?

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

Incorporating such a feature even though some can't use it is beneficial for several reasons: 1.) It establishes a precedent 2.) It demonstrates the feasibility of such advanced features 3.) It paves the way for better algorithms in the future 4.) It saves the end user time 5.) It raises the...

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

I don't believe one can execute Solver on Martin's spreadsheet because it is locked. Even if you could, you would only arrive at one solution of a multi-faceted answer, which may very well be good enough for most (i.e. they may accept that answer) save the most discerning among us.

    Bru'n Water Spreadsheet question

The problem is the term "a solution". There are *many* different solutions to the question "how much of which salts/acids can be used to hit the target water profile and pH". Perhaps one could artificially limit the output by having the user select which salts/acids they have, but even then...
