    No Fermentation?

Dry ale yeast. Something 05 I think

    No Fermentation?

I am / was concerned that my latest batch was not fermenting. I cracked open the lid and took this picture. I had no airlock activity which is what made me wonder. I was hoping to see Krausen but I did not. However, it kind of looks like something is on the side walls. Not sure of that is...

Irish draught ale / red ale

Wondering what the difference is between something that is marketing as an Irish draught ale vs an Irish red ale or just an Irish ale. Is there any difference at all?

    Brewing Playlist!

I'm curious if anyone out there has a brew day playlist?! If you do... please share! I'm trying to build one but I don't have a lot of songs so far. 1. This life (sons of anarchy theme) 2. Shipping up to Boston (dropkick Murphy) 3. Have a drink on me (AC DC) 4. Swimming in beer (Brew masters theme)

    Fermentation / Batch Size

Might be a silly question, but is there a general rule for what size fermentor should be used for a specific batch size? Should a 5 gal batch always go into a 6.5 gal fermentor? What about a 2.5 gal recipe. What size should it go into? What happens if you put a batch in a fermentor that is way...

    brand new to brewing

Outside of the local shops you can check out online options as well. Someone got me a starter kit from Northern Brewer to get me going. Came with a recipe kit and how to DVD.

    Is this ok?

Google pellicle. That will be one of the few things you will see in a fermentor that is bad. What you have does not look like that, just looks like normal yeast activity.

    Is this ok?

Yeah it looks OK to me. How long did you pitch the yeast?

    Layer on top of wort

Guys, I think it was actually sanitizer. When I unhooked the blow off I noticed some sanitizer in the tube. I didn't realize it would suck it back up. I have learned that I need to put a normal airlock on once the vigorous fermentation has stopped. Did not think that mattered but I was...

    Layer on top of wort

Will do. Thanks again for all the help!

    Layer on top of wort

Thanks again! There is definitely clear separation between the two colors. The top is cloudy. About an inch worth. I'll give it a taste and see how it goes

    Layer on top of wort

No late additons, smells fine. Going to taste and take a gravity reading in a bit when going to bottle. I will give it a shot and see how it goes. I want to thank you for your quick responses. The beer is an Irish draught ale. This is the longest fermentation I have done (5 weeks) so I wasn't...

    Layer on top of wort

It's extract and 5 weeks in fermentation. Was going to bottle today. Have not tasted it yet

    Layer on top of wort

I found a layer of clearish liquid on top of my wort today. Didn't notice it the other day. Wondering if I lost a batch or not. Has anyone ever seen this before?
