    priming sugar question

I brewed a Black IPA and will be bottling it soon. It was from a recipe that a guy at the LHBS put together and I thought I'd use the TastyBrew.com calculator to dial in how much priming sugar to use. This is what it gave me: That seems very low, 2.5 oz of corn sugar? Most kits tell you to...

    Local Beer is Better Beer

i believe in buying local whenever possible and reasonable. I'm lucky to have have a few local breweries and brewpubs to frequent and support.

Leaving it on the Yeast bed: advantages?

I'm no expert but as I understand it and in my experience it's almost always better to leave the beer a little longer than taking it too soon.

    Sanitzer

Boiling water? Or some oxyclean from the grocery store, just make sure to rinse well.

    Freshness and craft beer

Hey, maybe if you word it nicely they'll send you some beer. Honestly though, phrase it nicely and not as a knock on their beer or even them just that you are seeing beer and bought beer that was stale. I'm sure you're not the first to encounter this and honestly a business should know these...

    Shandy

I bought some last summer that was bottled, personally didn't like it one bit but that's the beauty of homebrewing, make whatever you like.

    Cardboard Gowlers?

Might be good if you plan to drink them in a few hours or so but otherwise I can't imagine the beer will keep well in them.

    Pressurized can of LME

I would not mess with a bulging can of anything. I would supposed the boiling could kill off the bacteria but why take that kind of chance?

New Flip Top Beers from Trader Joe's, under 4 bucks a piece.

Thanks to PA's antiquated beer laws you can't buy beer at Trader Joe's, or almost anywhere besides distributors and a handful of other stores.

Building permits for a dedicated brewing room - hints?

Personally I would call it a second kitchen and avoid using brewing or homebrew or anything related to making beer unless asked directly. I wouldn't lie if they ask but be clear about what you are doing and the legality of it. After I brewed my first batch of beer I brought a few over to my...

Why AB InBev and the others suck

Personally I try to support local breweries and one's who make products I enjoy. However, if I'm having a party at my house I'm buying Miller Lite and Yeungling (which is a family owned fairly local company) because frankly most people aren't going to appreciate craft beer and I will spend...

    Starting Water Amount

    To become a good brewer...

If you were looking to start a brewery then I would say you need to be able to brew a variety of beers, including those don't are your personal style favorites, but if you are brewing beer for you worry about being good at brewing beer YOU like. If you can brew great malty beers that's better...

    First Time Brewing Ever

My only advice is take your time and be patient, your beer will thank you.

can't wash the beer smell out of brew bucket

That's what I would do. Personally I don't think the smell is a big deal just be sure to sanitize well and there shouldn't be a problem.

    Midwest SNPA clone help

Good luck...I'm a big fan of Sierra Nevada and this is on my list of soon to brew beers

    Possible dry-hopping catastrophe; not sure...

I doubt it, it's not hurting the beer when you it's in the fermenter so why would it hurt it in the bottle?
  18. LimerickBrewCo

    Dry Hopping

I don't think it can ever hurt to sterilize something that is going into beer after it's boiled.
  19. LimerickBrewCo

Do you think I ruined my 2nd batch?

I think you should be fine. The truth is bacteria is everywhere all the time, even when you sanitize. I wouldn't worry about it.

    How long will grains keep?

A few weeks ago I ordered a few kits from Midwest Supplies that come with grains that need to be steeped before adding the malt extract. I hadn't really thought about it at the time but how long will those grains stay fresh or until they go bad. One kit seems much more suited for the fall so I...
